Honestly you can’t fax and lawgic away how people feel. His attacks towards you suggest he doesn’t want to listen, so you’re better off redirecting him and encouraging him to do things that won’t impact his health. Anyone and his mother can look up generic muh mentals bullshit, but the idea is to get him to touch grass and get away from the TV/tablet/computer.
I've been trying to get him to hang out with me more, he won't do it. He just sits around doomscrolling on his phone. He used to not be this way. It seems like things went to hell when he upgraded his phone into an actual smart phone that allowed him to play videos. People warn about kids getting hooked on their phones and believing bullshit, I think that's what happened to my dad.
If he's in finace his literal job is knowing about the state of these things. I'd take his opinion over yours just on that (assuming he's a succesful financieer). Still, freaking out in general does not help but if you got any exposure to certain parts of the economy it's getting really fucking hard to not freak out due to how much shit is changing.
I do take his opinions seriously, especially since I'm not great with math and don't understand the finer details of how economic stuff works. He's very smart, but he isn't infallible, he also thought Hunter Biden's laptop scandal was a conspiracy theory made up by Republicans, he completely bought into the covid hysteria, and now he thinks DOGE is going to take away social security and ruin his 401K etc. He believes Elon personally is in there stealing data and stuff. I wish I could break his phone.
If he's in finance you should ask him about what his main concerns are and share them with weridos on the internet.
I'm trying not to powerlevel too much here, but his job is to ensure his company's money is going where it is supposed to. He basically does what DOGE does but for one large single company, which is why I find his reaction even more annoying. His fears, as best as I can understand them, are that Elon is this crazy man that should not have access to American information, and he believes that Elon is working to get rid of social security and also sell off information to Russia.

bankers fleeing the country? Or the government trying to make Fort Knox look good?
My current theory is that this is due to China just allowing the 10 largest insurance companies in China to invest up to 1 percent of their holdings in gold

The National Financial Regulatory Administration of China has issued the “Notice on Launching a Pilot Program for Insurance Funds to Invest in Gold” (hereinafter referred to as the “Notice”), allowing ten insurance companies to invest in gold, effective immediately upon the release of the Notice on February 7.

That just makes me think he's a lefty boomer. I'd just tell him you love him and are there for him.

also sell off information to Russia.
What exactly would Russia want/do with information about my contributions to social security? What good would that do them? How would that harm me or the United States? How would that help Putin or Russia? What would make it worth risking a security breach to transmit this information to Russia?

This is what's always irritated me about the Tier-1 dipshit conspiracy theories (lunar landing hoax, flat earth hoax, etc.) -- when there's either an astonishing pile of very reasonable and convincing evidence disproving the theory (lunar landing, flat earth), or literally no pragmatic reason whatsoever for "evil group X does evil deed Y" to actually occur. Think for ONE FUCKING SECOND and the whole idea falls apart.

It looks to me that things will be shit in the short-term but will stabilize in the long-term.
Boomers have a tendency to think that just because something was right in the past, or it’s right for them, that means it’ll be right now, or for others. The “look him in the eye and give him a good handshake,” experience and neuroplasticity and all that.

Where does he get this from? YouTube? Business news sites? He should ask himself if his company, or any equivalent, would do what he thinks DOGE does if he trusts the establishment so much.

Well that's the thing, he's a Republican and always has been, but he's never liked Trump.

My dad gets his information from MSM. He 100% thinks CNN, The Washington Post, and NPR are the least biased sources out there.

You might be able to help him by using things that show how unhealthy doomscrolling is. His perception is going to be hard to change, but if you can get him to realize that obessing on it is unhealthy and there are many sites discussing how doomscrolling can be harmful. It be a way to help his anxiety and your worries without having to shatter his world view which may not be something you can do.

Site on Doomscrolling:

On topic though I did not see it posted but Booker has taken over the Senate floor and plans to talk as long as possible its being live streamed on the senate website.

Maybe CNN or NPR has some articles on doomscrolling? Or would it backfire since they’d blame it on X and TikTok?

This is something lefties have talked about. Especially all those White girls trying to see Taylor Swift. I'm all for Trump trying to build bridges with the "other side". It cuts out a very annoying middleman, that adds nothing productive to the economy. I doubt it took long to write, and it took 5 seconds to sign
I just don’t really see how this can be fixed in a logical way without outright banning all resales. But then again, I’m also someone who by pure coincidence resold two wristbands to the Las Vegas Harvest Festival(yes, that one) so I’ve seen both sides of the concert ticket situation

I grew up listening to Rush and he was always the most interesting thing on the radio except for maybe Coast to Coast. His show was cozy, complete with in-jokes, a slow moving personal narrative, and enough comedy to pierce the slog that is US politics.

That isn't to say he was perfect, looking back he had a MASSIVE blindspot and didn't really understand how pervasive the RINO mentality was in the Republican superstructure, but Rush primed the grass roots for the MAGA takeover of the Republican party.

Helps that he's dead too so I can never meet my metaphorical hero and be sorely disappointed.

Legend Of The Three Caballeros is pretty good, iirc that was an existing project that ended up there, though.

considering how much he shared shock jock dna with Stern it's kinda weird how shitpost conservatism hit a lot of people out of nowhere in more modern times
Rush was great. Even as a kid I liked him. He was so irreverent and brash. I drifted ledt in and after college but came back and realized Rush was formative for me.

And yeah, he as basically a proto Right Wing shitposter and memelord.

This would be like Godzilla vs King Kong or Batman v Superman.

To boomers though the tarrifs are basically annuda shoa, literally 6 million lines go down
And I'm absolutely all for it. Fuck the boomers. These risk adverse faggots have allowed all kinds of fraud and shenanigans to take place in order to force line to go up. I'm perfectly fine with these faggots getting ass blasted.
