My dad is absolutely losing his shit over DOGE, freaking out about what this will mean for his future retirement and whatnot. I tried to reassure him earlier today but he basically said I'm too young to understand how these things work, and that I'm stupid for believing what I read on the internet. Even when I tried to show him actual direct sources that contradict what he's read or heard, he wouldn't believe me.

I'm worried my dad is going to have an actual heart attack from stress due to all the BS fear mongering from the mainstream media. I don't know what I can show him to help ease his fear and anxiety.
Tell him he can move into your pod when President AOC requisitions Social Security for reparations in 2030.

Seems as though every day, I see people calling the tariffs proof that “Trump is going to ruin the economy”, given how much other countries are taking measures to adjust accordingly.

Is it really that hard for people to not see things in just the short-term?
Seeing as there are retards who make tons of money on garbage like gambling I can assure you most people are short term thinkers. If you want an image of the future imagine Bossman Jack punching a whole through his door for eternity.

Your shiny bits of metal are going to be worth about as much as the meaningless bits of paper you used to buy them when people are struggling for food, water and fuel.

My shiny bits of metal are brass and lead. Whatever food, water, or fuel you have is useless without the ability to protect it.

I'm worried my dad is going to have an actual heart attack from stress due to all the BS fear mongering from the mainstream media. I don't know what I can show him to help ease his fear and anxiety.

Have you tried telling him to stop acting like a nigger? It might shock him enough to unfuck his brain for a few moments and let it escape the retard boot loop it appears to be caught in. It might not do that either, but if nothing else it would make for a great anecdote for you to share for the rest of our amusement.

Journalists consider briefing room sit-in as Trump clashes with White House press corps

The News
The Trump administration’s proposal to take over the seating arrangement within the White House press briefing room has rattled the journalists who cover the president and left them mulling how exactly to push back.

The White House plans to impose its own seating chart for reporters in the briefing room, seizing control of a prerogative long managed by the journalists in the room through the White House Correspondents’ Association, Axios first reported Sunday.

The WHCA’s current system reflects the 20th century media power structure: wire services and broadcast and cable television networks occupy the front row, major newspapers and radio get the second and third rows, and a more fluid collection of news organizations sits further back. The White House proposal would upend the arrangement in a move White House officials reportedly believe will be a “fundamental restructuring of the briefing room, based on metrics more reflective of how media is consumed today.”

On Sunday, key members of the WHCA, including the organization’s leadership and some White House bureau chiefs, met to discuss a range of potential responses should Trump communications officials decide to dictate where reporters in the room sit.

According to two people familiar with the discussions, among the proposals raised by members was a potential Civil Rights era-style “sit-in” protest, in which members would return to their old seats and refuse to leave them.

WHCA leadership declined to comment, noting that Sunday’s meeting had been off-the-record, and members of the WHCA who spoke to Semafor emphasized that the situation remained in flux. On Fox News on Monday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration had tried to “broker a meeting” about the proposed seating changes and said the briefing room “does not belong to elitist journalists here in Washington.”

The move is part of a larger effort by the administration to take control of in-person access to the president and staff when at the White House. The White House has prohibited The Associated Press from covering in-person events over the wire service’s refusal to follow Trump’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico. Trump communications officials have also invited friendly reporters to cover events at which there is limited press access, allowing Trump to receive more positive questions and even some rhetorical backup during key moments.

The WHCA has tried to push back against White House’s changes and raise awareness about the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back press access at the White House and the Pentagon. As Semafor first noted last week, the WHCA asked members to support the AP’s press access case by wearing a 1st Amendment pin when attending events at the White House and appearing on television, a move White House officials quickly mocked on X.

In an email to members Monday morning, the WHCA board said the seating chart proposal was another sign that the White House was attempting to take power away from independent news organizations.

“If the White House pushes forward, it will become even more clear that the administration is seeking to cynically seize control of the system through which the independent press organizes itself, so that it is easier to exact punishment on outlets over their coverage,” the email said.

Still, while the WHCA has struck a defiant public tone, the organization had already made some concessions that have pleased the White House. After initially tapping comedian Amber Ruffin to perform at the WHCA’s annual dinner, the organization reversed course following complaints from White House communications officials, who criticized her comments on a Daily Beast podcast in which she described the new administration as “kind of a bunch of murderers.”

this is why I still love you
your massive amazing jewocity to the point it drives people antisemetic still shines though, and even if you run insane defense for Israel you can track gold like a motherfuck
mad props.
"We have only the best Jews on Kiwi Farms, aren't I right, folks? The Democrats, they say they have all the Jews, but frankly, I don't even regard Chuck Schumer as a Jew. He's a Palestinean to me, isn't that right, it's sad, real sad. You know, nobody loves Israel more than I do, nobody...except there's once person, look at him, there he is, way in the back, CATCH THE RAINBOW, everybody, this is just the best Jew, nobody knows gold and Israel like this heeb. We're gonna need all the cunning and financial wizardry we can get to make America great again, don't we, folks?"

What exactly would Russia want/do with information about my contributions to social security? What good would that do them? How would that harm me or the United States? How would that help Putin or Russia? What would make it worth risking a security breach to transmit this information to Russia?

This is what's always irritated me about the Tier-1 dipshit conspiracy theories (lunar landing hoax, flat earth hoax, etc.) -- when there's either an astonishing pile of very reasonable and convincing evidence disproving the theory (lunar landing, flat earth), or literally no pragmatic reason whatsoever for "evil group X does evil deed Y" to actually occur. Think for ONE FUCKING SECOND and the whole idea falls apart.
With the proliferation of AI generated media I feel like those types of retards are going to become significantly more prevalent unless people learn to adapt to it on their own

source. Why would we take the most embarrassing moment for our country in the last few decades? This benefits no one except maybe the Taliban

So far the Atlanta Fed is the only forecast that is predicting negative GDP growth in Q1 of 2025. New York, and Philadelphia forecasts have increased to 2.86% and 2.5%, St Louis has been holding around 2%. Atlanta has us at -2.8% growth.
Isn't access to the White House press pool a privilege not a right? Trump should just say fuck it and revoke access for 90% of these idiots.

Yes journoscum would whine about muh fascisms, and literally annuda shoa, and blah blah blah but the American public hates the media anyways so who cares?
They would just go running to an activist judge like they did when Trump blocked them on Twitter.

Do you not think that he might know a bit about what might impact his ability to retire?

...and his career is in finance/ a financial role? OK, I'm going to hazard a guess that he does actually know what may be coming his way, bc he knows where his money is and what his plans rely on. And understand that any big fuckups are going to hurt people within 20 years of retirement the most, because they have spent a life/career making certain plans, and if someone - someone who does not phase things in - is aiming to eliminate big parts of that infrastructure, then they will potential lose an enormous part of what they carefully worked and planned for for decades, and their money will not have time to recover. Even if something gutted got put back together again later, the actual money will never come back. So yes, it is a real and reasonable concern. The relative odds are subject to debate, but the possibility of massive negative change that will harm him significantly is not.

I'm sorry you have to see your dad worry - it is hard thing to see in a parent. But you should lose the condescension (however well-meant it might be), because just because something isn't 100% guaranteed to be true does not mean it is 100% guaranteed to be false, either. And unless you're 75+ yourself, your dad's not too old and senile to understand the world, politics, or money.

They fixed that now, the last administration made Credit Card Debit immune to bankruptcy. You WILL pay your 30% APR loans no matter what.
Do you have a cite? Credit card debt gets dealt with in bankruptcy. If you're an individual, you're either in Chapter 7 (liquidation) or 13 (basically debt restructuring). Credit card debt is dischargeable in bankruptcy (assuming you didn't obtain or incur the debt fraudulently; there's a lookback period scrutinized for preferential payments to friends/family, or large or increased purchases, etc., and those debts could be assessed as undischargeable; other undischargeable debt is below).

In a 7 unprotected assets are liquidated to pay what can be - in order of priority, and remaining dischargeable debt is gone. Credit card debt is unsecured, which means it gets repaid only after secured and priority debt - so there is often nothing to pay it off with. In a 13, there's a bankruptcy plan negotiated that lays out what will be paid and by when - for less than owed (or you wouldn't be in bankruptcy, typically). But again, unsecured creditors are at the bottom of the heap, and so even if participating in the bankruptcy, may not get much, if anything. But otherwise, if you pay per the bankruptcy plan (or get a Russell Greer hardship discharge), dischargeable debts are gone.

Nondischargeable for a 13:
As a general rule, the discharge releases the debtor from all debts provided for by the plan or disallowed, with the exception of certain debts referenced in 11 U.S.C. § 1328. Debts not discharged in chapter 13 include certain long term obligations (such as a home mortgage), debts for alimony or child support, certain taxes, debts for most government funded or guaranteed educational loans or benefit overpayments, debts arising from death or personal injury caused by driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, and debts for restitution or a criminal fine included in a sentence on the debtor's conviction of a crime. To the extent that they are not fully paid under the chapter 13 plan, the debtor will still be responsible for these debts after the bankruptcy case has concluded. Debts for money or property obtained by false pretenses, debts for fraud or defalcation while acting in a fiduciary capacity, and debts for restitution or damages awarded in a civil case for willful or malicious actions by the debtor that cause personal injury or death to a person will be discharged unless a creditor timely files and prevails in an action to have such debts declared nondischargeable. 11 U.S.C. §§ 1328, 523(c); Fed. R. Bankr. P. 4007(c).

In a 7, similar but fewer nondischargeable
Debts dischargeable in a chapter 13, but not in chapter 7, include debts for willful and malicious injury to property (as opposed to a person), debts incurred to pay nondischargeable tax obligations, and debts arising from property settlements in divorce or separation proceedings. 11 U.S.C. § 1328(a).

You can get the link to Chapter 7 from there as well.

thank you for the translation into Trumpglish

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but what ever happened to the whole autopen situation? It seems like the media quickly moved on to other things after Trump declared Biden's signatures null and void.

Also, I haven't really heard anything else about the MLK Jr files that are supposed to be released soon.
It's time you just sit your dad down and tell him something along the lines of the following:
If I said anything close to that, my dad would definitely end up yelling at me and my family would hate me lol
But you should lose the condescension (however well-meant it might be), because just because something isn't 100% guaranteed to be true does not mean it is 100% guaranteed to be false, either
I said as much in the thread. I take my dad's opinion into consideration given I consider him one of the smartest people I know, and I am never rude or argumentative about it when I disagree with him. I'm respectful to my dad even when he's being very disrespectful to me. There might be a real reason for my dad to worry (He does have stocks, has been maxing out his 401K contributations for years, and has other financial assets that I don't understand), but the fear mongering media is not helping matters and is causing him to stress out way more than if he wasn't Doomscrolling all day.

Have you tried asking him why exactly there's a link between DOGE and his retirement?

>Be illegal Guatemalan
>can't read complex road signs
>make the wrong turn in Detroit onto the one-way street that leads to the Canadian border with no outlet to turn around
>get detained by customs and deported
I read about this. TBF, the ramp to the Ambassador Bridge was redesigned in a way that someone not paying attention can easily choose the option to go across the bridge to Windsor without realizing it and missing their one and only chance to pull off and stay in Detroit on the US side even with the signs clearly stating there is NO REENTRY to the US for those proceeding forward. That said, I wonder if this person can read written English. (For the purposes of balanced reporting, this bridge ramp gotcha has snagged plenty of legal residents, too.)

My takeaway from the article is that relying on smartphones has led to so much brain rot that illegals don't know that a Costco in Windsor involves making an international border crossing whereas anyone in the region still having functional brain cells knows that small yet significant detail. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Someone please explain wtf I just watched. I thought pastor's and LGBT people hated eachother these days.
There has been some how to say "infiltration" and corruption taking place among multiple denominations in the past few years.
A number of protestant denominations have become more liberal and LGBTetc friendly to attract that community into their pews and prop up their otherwise sagging memberships. It's also not uncommon for some liberal ministers to believe their denomination is neither liberal nor inclusive enough so they form their own splinter churches where anything goes when it comes to sexual identity and behavior.

This has left traditional Christians looking for churches and denominations that haven't yet drunk the SJW Kool-Aid. I've even heard some have turned to the Catholic Church in areas where leadership is not yet pozzed.

Liberals defeated by actually having to think about what the fuck they just said.
I've seen this tactic labeled "Verbal Judo," but the idea is still the same - Don't let the other person control you with their words. I'm not surprised how the liberal that screech the most generally parrot talking points without any sort of thought behind what they're saying - making to easy to confuse them when they have to stop and think about what's being said.

Meanwhile, Boomers believe everything they see on TV. The TV is the supreme authority in the land and every other source is a lie because the talking heads didn't say it. Everyone who doesn't believe the Establishment lowest common denominator lies the talking heads promote are dumb or naive.

Try telling your dad "it's ok, I will never be able to retire either, we are in this together"

Yup. It's not really very much of a "trick" to apply the Socratic method to insane rants. "What do you mean?" is a great start. They never make it very far before the smoke starts pouring from their ears.
