Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

And I'm talking about the idea of having to rely on a piece of plastic as a physical authentication key. If the game is going to be fully downloadable, why not just work as such instead of introducing a physical point of failure to what is in practice a digital-only ecosystem?

If the physical media doesn't include a version 1.0 of the game that is fully playable from beginning to end then there is no point to it, once the server that host required content gets shut down, that incomplete piece of physical media becomes worthless. So no, I don't bother with that crap. Either ship the game fully on the card or fully-digitally without the need of a card.
And I am telling you you're eight years late to complaining about. For what its worth, the answer is simple. Don't like? Don't buy.

Edit: Civ V did this on PC 18 years ago. The issue is old enough to vote.

This is some /v/ tard stuff. People who have replaced having a family with media ownership and hobbies as their entire lives. I remember I used to be super outraged about gaming stuff when I was a teen too. What else do you have to think about? I guess I have to assume many here are actually kids. Nintendo has done some silly stupid things, but for it to inspire any serious emotions like rage and despair is kinda sad.
This is a gaming subforum where people discuss the hobby, why are you tards surprised that Nintendo trying to drag the rest of the hobby into yet another price hike is making people angry?

This shit is hilarious, why despair?
Because Nintendo is trying to brute-force the further enshitification of the already godawful modern gaming industry which has become notorious for nickel and diming people to death (and we're talking about Nintendo consoomers here, so it might work). It's like watching Apple take another feature away from the iPhone and watching the rest of the mobile phone industry copy them in despair.

"X is turning to shit, why aren't you laughing?"
It's a sad reality if I have to resort to laughing in the midst of a blazing fire burning in front of my eyes.

All Nintendo needs now is to have some spokesperson come out and say that if you're dissatisfied with the switch 2 and its prices, to just stick with the Switch 1 (which isn't getting a price cut this year btw).

I think it's just an age thing. I've spent a long time seeing this same indignant rage discourse happen over decades, and every single time people end up buying whatever it is anyway. Because the type of people who genuinely feel rage and despair about these things have nothing else in their lives. They are the ones to fold the fastest. That's just my view, from experience in communities and real life encounters. I like talking about games too. I think everyone eventually ages out of feeling certain very negative emotions about hobby news. There's a point where it's basically Chris screaming on video about some decision Sega made with Sonic. It's not healthy

Well at any rate, given the Treehouse stuff in the upcoming days, I can only speculate that Nintendo is going to be at least partly aware of the price backlash.

Do you guys think the recent tariffs are partly to blame?
I don't think so, IMO they were never a threat to begin with.

Nintendo is simply taking advantage of their dominance in the global market since Switch's launch, and they are comfortable with making these (outlandish) decisions because they have brand recognition and are part of the foundation of what we have today. They have normalized keeping the first party games as expensive as possible, while offering paltry discounts on rare occasions. They know they have audiences they can exploit.
1) They've drip-fed retro games via a subscription service, where in the past you could buy the games. Said games wouldn't even carry into the next rendition of VC, and the selection and output of games would pale in comparison in future hardware.
2) Their audiences (both children and adults) believe in the Nintendo brand, despite quality in their games demonstrably taking a nosedive (see Pokemon and the records it continues to make).
3) Nintendo has always been known as the cheaper, family friendly option. I won't make the argument that the same holds true here, but your average John and Jane who don't know a thing about video games will likely buy a Switch 2 without taking the price into consideration or chalk it up to inflation, they probably think the other two consoles are as expensive. I've learned to not underestimate the stupidity of consumers.
4) They have already eased their consumers into accepting game cartridges without the complete game on cart, and walling off additional retro consoles behind higher subscription tiers.

As much as I hate Nintendo, they are correct to assume they can do anything they want and the consumers will be there to lap it up. And not a single thing or person can stop them unless their pockets are hurt (3DS, Wii U). They can make or change the rules as they see fit, and so they're doing that here. The game industry will follow by example.

I don't think many people age out of feeling angry that their hobby is getting more expensive while not substantially increasing in value, no. There's calling out /v/ tier slapfighting over absolutely nothing and then there's acting like you're all so above it all as a company actually does something beyond retarded.

Late to the party as stuck at work, but holy shit that Direct was terrible. Mario Kart and Kirby (Air Ride and Forgotten Land) really were the only things salvaging it. Nintendo showed nothing but some bland AF DEI Basketball title that looks like a college unity project, a literal manual for their system, which you have to pay for, and a DK that looks bad. This system is giving the Wii U and 3DS a run for their money for worst system launch.

The rest of the showcase can be summed up as 3rd parties I just couldn’t give a damn about.

I feel like I held low expectations going in, yet I am still shocked by how low it actually turned out.

I've seen people bitch about the pricing of Warhammer figurines that it's at the point where getting angry about it actually turns you into the group's lolcow

And unlike Arms which was used to show off using two Joy Cons, a fun vibrant new IP with goid character design and style, the thing they decide to show off the mouse with is plain old boring wheelchair basket ball, in a darkened court with basically no music and clear indication that each movement get a slow response.
ARMS was a genuinely cool concept and a fun game that actually MADE me want to buy a Switch. Bright, colorful, great character design, nice story, but Nintendo abandoned it because it didn't pull Splatoon numbers after barely being advertised and being given little content post launch.

This Wheelchair Basketball shit is just lame. It's a tech demo with no other purpose besides being a tech demo. ARMS is a tech demo done right, much like Astro Bot.

It looks unfinished, yet it's supposed to come out this summer. That's concerning.

Well the thread title does include "Currently Plagued" after all. Agreed that the teeth gnashing is great fun though.
Oh god, I've seen this thread title so many times and yet my mind completely blanked on it being plagued. It all makes sense now...

I agree, and I understand. However, it has now been over ten hours since the end of the direct, and this thread has been blazingly fast thanks to the same few people repeating the same few points and it's getting a little tiring. What is there to even rage at anymore? We aren't getting a steady drip feed of news or anything, we've combed over the site and every frame of the Direct a million times, why not kick back and redirect focus to something more fun for now?

"X is turning to shit, why aren't you laughing?"

You're strawmanning a bit there mate. I said I agreed with the sentiment for a reason, and even called this shit months in advance. I wasn't asking people to start laughing at how shit this all is, moreso how people are reacting to it. What else can we do? If Nintendo is looking for feedback, they won't be sticking their noses in Kiwifarms threads. They'll be looking at mainstream social media and/or sales figures. The most we can do about Nintendo announcing their intentions to anally rape our wallets is either not buy their shit (which does not require any discussion online) or bitch about it into an empty void, and I'm saying that the latter's been done to death for the last thirty-ish pages. It would be nice to get the thread out of its loop, is all.

The tariffs are just a smokescreen. Europe is getting fucked over massively even though it has nothing like that going on .

What interests me is if the console does well in Japan, but poorly in the West, what will happen? Because Nintendo is blatantly using the West to subsidize the Japanese consoles and games. It irks me to think Nintendo still wouldn't care at that point and just become a mainly Japanese company.

And no, I don't think Nintendo will take kindly to emulation this time around. It doesn't help that emulator trannies can't keep their mouths shut.

I don't play Warhammer but I do play a few other tabletops (although not much anymore since I just don't have the time) and that's mostly because 3D printing has long been a thing. Order that shit off of Wish, no one gives a shit lol
