The US Politics thread here in KF is insane, they don't acknowledge that tariffs raise prices, they actually believe it doesnt affect the regular guy. But the mose insane stuff is that they actually believe manufacturing will come back like in a big way.

What he's doing is ginning up a united front within his base, but largely deflecting to place targets on the backs of everyone that wouldn't be him. Or what I mean to say is that I do agree that America is often victimized, but those victimizers largely tend to be its own government (whether more liberal or more conservative) and its institutions (most notably its media.) This can be said for many countries, particularly western ones; America, however, probably sees the most extremes which comes with the territory of being the biggest dog on the block.
His issue, MAGAs issue, is that railing about The Man is all well and good until you are The Man (at least in terms of the governmental side of things.) Obama's cult of personality undoubtedly had naked institutional support, largely propped up by the media whereas Trump's made himself a lightning rod, earning a sincere loyalty which can easily be abused.

Here's a good one for you - why tariff an empty island? Another US Ground Pisser made the point that corpos sometimes use those islands to manufacture product or something along those lines. So rather than, oh I don't know, make the corporation manufacture their shit in the US if it's an American company or make THEM pay the tariff, YOU will be made to pay for their decision to evade taxes/restrictions/laws and rape even more natural resources to fuel their bottom line. This never occurs to a trumptard because they have no ability to think, they just mindlessly guzzle whatever their approved programming tells them to. My brother and dad, both in the electronics business, have already been hit by price increases just in anticipation of the tariffs. They're both going to be forced to raise prices to make a profit. And it's not like they don't already try to buy American when able.
Some of their products are used in water filters, medical equipment, flow meters for shipping, etc. Those services in general are going to end up needing to pay more for the equipment they need, which I'd imagine will drive the cost of those services up.
