I think this was the first time I even heard of Elon Musk, his whole plan to"bring humanity to mars" I remember, telling my family at the dinner table about it, and they all just laughed and commented on how insane that is. Especially the fact he was expecting to "achieve" it in...what the end of the previous or this decade, or something like that. All because he wanted to be the man who put humanity on mars, which is funny to think about, considering his only contribution would be funding the project, and that is it.

I used to like him, but nowadays, he is probably nearly top 10 or so, in my least favorite people list. Absolutely despise him, and all the retarded gremlins that defend his retarded ass. Even if he did "put humanity on mars," I would rather be thankful to a some intern that gave the engineers coffee, over the manchild musk.

Yeah, the whole Mars colony thing made it obvious that he wasn't the genius everyone claimed he was. We'll be lucky to have a person on mars by the end of this century. Mars is going to be a one-way trip because of the fuel involved for getting off of Mars. Then there's the whole fact that it's a deadly environment. We can't breathe there, no way to grow food outside, etc... There'd have to be a self-sustaining colony, which no human can help build (due to the no food thing) so we'd need robots to set up the entire habitat, and then we'd send humans and hope that not only they survive the trip, but that the robots didn't fuck up the colony. And all for what, so that people can live the rest of their lives in some colony where you can't even go outside?

Mars doesn't have a magnetosphere and any atmosphere it gets would get blown off into space from solar wind.

If you wanted to get Mars an atmosphere you'd have to somehow get its core to be liquid again which is beyond anything that we could ever dream of doing for likely thousands, if not millions, of years. Or you could have a bunch of solar powered satellites that would give off a magnetic field, but you'd need just an insane amount of them.
