A thought crossed my mind about the tariffs today and that was of the unions. Union workers in the United States are many things but a core requirement to be in a US Union is to be employed in the US. Chinese bullshit manufacturers aren't paying union dues, they aren't voting for union interests. Mexican auto workers aren't either. Going down to brass tacks it's nothing but a major advantage to the various union powers in the United States to support ditching overseas manufacturing as much as possible and bring jobs (and new possible union members) back into the fold. I think that's why you had the head of the Teamsters speaking at the RNC back in the day, something that hasn't happened for as long as I can remember. The Teamsters don't give a shit if they're driving from some port to their destination or if they're driving from a factory in Indiana either, but they do care if their members are getting replaced by imported scabs.
Right now there's a lot of screeching about stonks but the unions, one of the DNC's most powerful voting blocs, have everything to gain from people getting work in areas that they control. Double the auto workers and you double the power of the auto union. I'm no expert but I'd say that's worth ditching the Dems who would choose the coveted tranny vote over them.
We live in strange times.
