I'm really enjoying the fact that video game movies are getting progressively better to the point they actually feel like real movies. Sure, they're mostly slop, but compare the recent Mario or Sonic movies to the Max Payne film and it's like night and day. Damn shame, too, because Max Payne would be perfect for a film adaptation. It wouldn't be groundbreaking or anything since it's just a collection of film noir tropes. but movies like that get made and succeed all the time. Taking the general plot and streamlining it a bit for a film would've worked great. Instead it was a muddled piece of shit filled with new stuff that made no sense and cheap references to the game that lacked any of the stuff that made the stuff it referenced good.
Just like one of Bob's shitty movie pitches. I think back to his Megaman one: "Look it's Tron Bonne from Legends! Look it's Mayl from Battle Network! They're completely removed from their original settings and might as well be generic girl characters, but you know them! Look it's Megaman X! He's just a generic goon that Megaman fights, but you know what that is!"
The Minecraft movie looks like it's also going to be that way, but on the plus side Minecraft has literally no story so the fear of getting the "lore" wrong is moot.
