It's actually kind of funny. Billy was upfront about what the lawsuit was about since the very beginning. His response video to Karl was entirely about the Apollo statements. At a con, he mentioned that the complaint had nothing to do with video games (Karl said this was wrong, even). This is legitimately the one case where Billy has been honest the whole time and Karl is the liar. It wasn't that hard to find out what the lawsuit was about, but Karl could have at least mentioned it. His argument is that it might have hurt him in court, which is funny when you're posting 20 Billy videos anyway. Saying "yeah, the lawsuit is about me saying Billy led Apollo to kill himself because I saw a Reddit post about it" isn't too great, I agree. But when you put it like that, he should have known he was doomed from the start. At the very least, he could have clarified that it wasn't about the cheating allegations.

The judge didn't cite them in his spoken verdict, but instead cited - and quoted - 396 comments from the public calling Billy Mitchell a "murderer", "scumbag", etc. among other things in response to Karl Jobst's claim that he was the cause of Apollo Legend's death.

Apparently, "No formal claim for financial loss had been made in the pleading". and the heart of the complain was reputational damage. So those e-mails Billy Mitchell submitted about lost speaking engagements were indeed supplemental, and not a factor in the case.

He didn't seek special damages, which is where you attempt to prove a quantifiable loss, typically lost earnings.

Someone also asked about spousal support (alimony) and divorce etc. Spousal support orders are rare here and generally only where a woman has never worked outside the home over a marriage of many years, with a husband of significant means. The general perspective is that adults support themselves and alsi that the courts like a clean break.. You might get a greater share of the marital assets if your future earning capacity is significantly less than your partner.

But I'm skimming through his blog, PerfectPacman (which has nothing to do with PacMan, but is simply his schizophrenic obsession with Billy Mitchell.) These people are legitimately psychotic. One of their trial correspondents for the Mitchell v Jobst trial was summarizing the closing arguments of the case. It was basically incoherent writing, almost all of it about, not the trial, but himself. Including this:

Billy is clearly portrayed as a bully and a villain in that film so it’s amazing that the film wasn’t a focal point for the defense team to establish that Billy is simply not a good person.

So....a bullshit movie should have been the foundation of Karl Jobst's defense. A fucking movie.
