Disaster Nintendo pauses much-anticipated gadget due to Trump's tariffs - muh switch 2

Gamers will have to wait a bit longer for one of the most anticipated consoles of 2025.

Nintendo just announced it is pausing the preorder of the Switch 2 in the US as it attempts to adjust to President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The company previously announced it would launch the pre-orders on April 9.

'Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,' the company said to The Verge.

'Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.'

The company says it will still offer the gaming system for $449.99.

In order to keep the consoles at the same price, the company will have to eat millions of dollars in previously unknown costs.

Switch consoles are mostly produced in Vietnam and China. Both countries were slapped with 'reciprocal' tariffs by the Trump administration.

All products produced in Vietnam must pay a 46 percent tariff rate while products from China have to pay an additional 34 percent.

The tariffs came in much higher than economists expected, sending the stock market into a tailspin on the uncertainty.

Nintendo revealed the redesigned console on Tuesday, the same day that President Trump held a massive press conference on the White House lawn to announce the higher-than-expected tariffs.

The tech company is joining a list of brands adjusting to the President's policy.

What I hate about this country is that "switch is $100 more expensive" is a more effective narrative than "Your retirement account just lost $10,000"

The lede that is being buried is that this has shown it was going to be 100 more no matter what.

All the talks about tariffs making it more expensive? Complete bullshit, because they are revealing the tariffs are why pre orders are paused.

I dunno what Nintendo is thinking with these prices, especially with the economy currently still in the shitter.

$450 for the system, $90 per joycon, $80 per game. Plus still requiring paid Online/Virtual Console. And now potentially charging for 60fps patches?

They're already pretty blatantly anti-consumer, but now they're pricing themselves out of their market niche.

Also, with the $80 games becoming standard, this means that a 4chan leaker was right again:

A guy claiming to be an industry insider posted in early 2024 that all the "AAA game companies" and console makers got together behind closed doors and collectively decided to raise game prices to $80 in 2025 and blame it on "Inflation"

They thought he was just shit posting, especially because he said something along the lines of "Even Nintendo is on board with this. Actually they're really enthusiastic because they'll be able to blame it on SD card prices"

Referring to the Switch 2 as a "gadget" just reminded me of some of the finest sports commentary of all time. Please ignore Charlie's crying.

I aspire to be a "gadget-type operator" or a "computer-type boffin" one day.

Nintendo just needs to drop the system to $400, games to $70, and cope and seethe.
They won’t do that until Xmas at the earliest.

Nintendo has a floor of high-value customers who are all streamers/influencers/reviewers who are going to buy this thingbno matter how much it is. They are capitalizing a first run on that base even moreso than the day 1 soyfags. Families aren’t going to really care much about the Switch 2 until Xmastime and by then Nintendo can decide to pivot if necessary. Their gay fanboys will scream in agony and then keep buying the games because they don’t really have a choice anyway.

Nintendo is also hedging against a shorter emulation window. The Switch got emulation and piracy incredibly fast. The Switch 2 is a lot more powerful, so it may take longer, but Nintendo will want to get as much revenue while the system cannot be emulated as possible.

I guess that makes sense. They may also just dig their heels in like with Wii U, and never price cut.

Tendies would still buy it if it was $4,499 and games were $800 or $900.

And the prices would probably reach those levels if Kamommy was President instead, as her "policies" of Unrealized Capital Gains taxes, "not being different from Biden" would cause a surge of hyperinflation, and being so poor with campaign spending budgeting, would cause a surge of hyperinflation for sure.

"BUT THE MARKETS REACHED AN ALL-TIME HIGH! TO THE MOON!"

console priced at $449? Or the announcement of games being $80 digitally
Everyone keeps bitching about this and it's retarded. That's how much every console is at launch, and they should take advantage of the retards who must have the latest gadget.
Game prices seem high until you look back and see that they basically haven't raised prices since the 90s. I paid $65 for Pokemon stadium for N64 when it came out, $15 over 30 years seems reasonable.

The last Nintendo product I had was a game boy color, so I'm not a Nintendo autist, I just find this argument stupid.
