Devil May Cry to get an animated series from creator of Castlevania Netflix series - Bootleg Multiverse

Adi Shankir: "DUDE AMERICA IS EVIL FOR KILLING MUSLIMS"

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah….my bad.
Srawbelly sunday.

I don't have high expectations for this show, although I will say having Limp Bizkit and Evanescence as the promo music definitely vindicates all the edgy mid-2000s AMV makers. Who knew the emo kids would be a decade ahead of Netflix?

Also calling it now, the rabbit is Arkham. I'm probably wrong, but I feel like there's a non-zero chance I'm not.

t's not even a recent thing. "Satan good. God evil" is the quintessential edgy fuck-traditional-Christianity-up subvert-expectations cliche that's literally millennia years old, with Gnosticism being one of the oldest examples (just to prove how unoriginal this idea is). All fiction hack writers think they are original and special, instead of the reality that they are doing the most obvious reversal ever. It's rarely done in an interesting way.

I agree it's an eye-rolling plot point, and while I am open to seeing it being used in a non-Reddit-fedora-tipping-atheist way, this definitvely wasn't the one to change my mind.

You know what's really crazy? That "Hell isn't a place populated with evil people it's just an alternate earth filled with people who have slightly different values but are still basically good" has been done so many times it's now a cliche.

Off the top of my head

Have all done this in like the last three years.
The whole concept of demons/monsters being evil is so rare nowadays that when Frieren had intrinsically evil demons it became a controversy.

It's just shitty story telling by people who keep thinking they reinvent the wheel.

DMC is no stranger to having human villains but they don't do this oppression Olympics bullshit that makes the demons more oppressed.
Yeah, it was used as "humans can get low enough to be like demons", and not "demons actually got thousands of good people but humans are worse"

Satan good. God evil" is the quintessential edgy fuck-traditional-Christianity-up subvert-expectations cliche
In fact, what was the last time we had Hell being unambiguous bad and Heaven unambiguous good? Dante's Inferno? Like, its either "satan good god evil" like Ultrakill, or "both god and satan are evil" like Spawn

They do the thing where they have Lady get teased with her game-accurate weapon for the entire series, only for her to use it once to bat away one of the demons and then never use it again. Gosh do I love when a character who has a cool design, fighting style and weapon gets sanded down to the most basic bitch bland essentials. I can't wait for season 2 where Dante won't get any of the game upgrades and we'll probably find an excuse for Dante to ditch his pistols.

Also, I know they're supposed to eb delusional, but it's real annoying how the human characters (apart from Lady) still act so damn confident against the demons when they get slaughtered in every encounter even with their anti-demon bullets.

I can't be mad at this fanfic shit. I just can't. Even if they are all chicks and minorities.
So the only way to enjoy this crap is for the throw back to the grim and gritty 90s antihero designs (even though 90s nostalgia is almost as dead as 80s nostalgia) and of course by watching on the high seas to ensure Netflix doesn't think people actually enjoy this crap?

At least Viziepop made her own thing.
And again I can kinda enjoy her material in small doses. The mini episodes of helluva, the music segments which are catchy at times..amd often have better animation just look at the song moxxie sang while under happy gas with blitz.

VivziePop and Shankar are a case of "lesser of two evils." They both made a cartoon that tries to say "not all demons." But so far Vivzies the lesser of the two for making her own thing, not shitting on a beloved franchise for her own personal gain. And while she can get heavy handed at times (she's been trying hard for years to shed the terf label she was slapped with after hazbins pilot dropped) she's somehow not as heavy handed as Shankar who flat out put demons in turbans and had the army bomb them like and Iraqi orphanage built over a petroleum deposit.

Christ, it’s that bad?

Its kinda okay-ish for 2 episodes and than, its goes straight to hell. I kinda like "Mary" edgy team and wanted to Dante to interact with them before their inevitable horrible dead. What? This not a spoiler, they have death flag fucking everywhere.

I just watched the whole thing. The heavy handed political messaging is so fucking bad. I thought the Bill Oreliy boss fight was bad but this is worse. Wacky pizza man stylishly killing demons is not a good vessel for your political commentary. I'm going to make a Doom cartoon not about ripping and tearing but about Israel and Palestine. They ended the season with hints of next season being DMC 2. Can he do worse than DMC2? The only good part is Kevin Conroy and his holy war.

The visionary mind of Adi Shankar strikes again. I'll admit I was a bit less critical of him than others in this thread, because from what I get the stuff from S3 and S4 of the original netflixvania were apparently an indirect result of his spat with the fat cunt Warren Ellis who's most known for being a spiteful cunt. Even so, his work on "Captain Laserhawk or whatever that ubisoft multiverse show was called" speaked for itself. It was obvious this show won't be an interesting and meaningful take on the franchise from how proudly he boasted that he bought licenses to nu-metal radio hits from the early 2000's. Also Green Day, which is THE shallow political messaging band. He even tried to hide that one as a surprise, as if it wasn't obvious he'll go for their most popular song because he's a jeet (and jeets only know mainstream).

(Notice how the production team cut out the part where Billie Joe Armstrong says 'faggot')

This show also proves my theory that the only reason netflixvania is so praised is because Castlevania was known as a series, but it never did that well in the sales, so people could latch onto the show because it was "cool" and it would in turn make them seem "cool" because they like the cool gothic game series (even if they never played the games). Compare that to the backlash DMC recieves, with the ratio of shills/actual fans on xitter being way closer to 50/50 than netflixvania, where shills would always shoot down any criticism by pointing out how the showrunners put le epic fight scenes, and also Adam Deats wrote a guide for Order of Eclessia back in 2008 so shut up chud (90k likes).

What pisses me off about the soundtrack. Is that the use of Devil Trigger over Devils Never Cry is dead to rights proof that Adi either didn't even play DMC5 or he's a dead brained retard, or he doesn't fucking care for the series. Probably a combination of all three, because D. Trigger is Nero's theme and DNC is Dante's, both songs have lyrics that relate to both characters on a personal level and their character journeys. Adi probably wanted to use it because it was the most popular song because of 5 and completely ignored that it was Nero's theme for a fucking reason. What a dullard hack. I hate it.

Knowing that this is the same shitskin who made that bootleg Power Rangers short some 10 years ago and seeing his adaptations towards Castlevania and DMC - this fag has no new ideas whatsoever. And as is always, this dick has exposed a niche franchise to mass audience who don’t play it but will now claim its great/bigots don’t like it.

The funniest thing is we saw what happened with this approach with DmC and Donte - people hated it. This moralising bullshit of the times. Then it was Occupy Wall Street shit and now it’s rapefugees.

I'd honestly respect Shankir if he at least admitted his shows were made for like 10-16 year old boys but it's made for dumb manchildren and he does some of the same shit he did for Castlevania

>Have one character excessively swear it makes Vivziepop blush
>Explain supernatural elements as science
>HUMANS R DA REAL MONSTERS
>Dumb social commentary that feels detached from the source material
>MCU level insincere quips

I like how the show goes out of its way to show the vice president as evil and we're suppose to hate him, but he is the best character and everything he does is cool.

MCU quips have ruined anything cool/action in films and games. Always got to quip and be ironic now. There is something incredibly cheesy but in a cool way about video game Dante. But when there is time for a moment to be serious or there be serious danger, it’s played properly.

It feels like a particular Japanese brand of cool. Sort of stuff you see in the Yakuza games. Western developers just don’t seem to get it at all. It’s like it’s goofy but also played cool and they don’t give a shit that it’s goofy and therefore it’s cool. Western “cool” seems so try hard.

Also this guy’s animation is trash.

Ep 3 was solid. I liked the bit of lady backstory and the focus on Arkham as a science family man who went insane when he realized demons were real and he needed power to fight them.

"We got demon hobos trying to eat kids. Hell is not sending their best."

1743871945861.jpeg

"Batman's gonna send em back."

I think I figured out why Shankir thinks he's being faithful to the game. It's because Dante is more or less accurate, but the issue is the world around him is filled out with edge. Like none of the DMC games really cared about the overall world Dante lives in besides the immediate environment. Everything was style, and that was enough. Shankir really wants to make a edgy spawn inspired world with some moral complexity that just so happens to have Dante in it. I applaud him for trying, and I'm probably going to like this series if it continues at this pace, but man.... He really stepped in the hornets nest lol.

I like how Dante is actually saving people consistently, and kicking a decent amount of ass, although we get a lovely scene at the end of his head getting halfway fried by a bomb.
Darkcom is pretty useless at this point aside from lady, and even then I appreciate how she's just treading water when facing off against 3 bosses at once. There's a mega man bobble head in the darkcom car and this is the episode where they reference Dante in raccoon City.

The demon boss placement is pretty haphazard. You can tell they were picked based on cool factor rather then any real knowledge of the games, but all the same there was nothing overtly offensive in their usage aside from the two dmc3 weapon twins being designed differently. I like the bunny rabbit guy, he's a good villain and he killed the crap out of black exposition scientist.

The only good part is Kevin Conroy and his holy war.
Not gonna lie that's the main reason im enjoying this so far. It's approaching avatar levels of loveable bad guy.

The only negative is this really was the last role he did, and you can tell because he didn't finish all his lines. There's an understudy that fills in for him occasionally for some pickup lines he didn't get the chance to do. It's only one minor line in episode 3 but I'll keep an eye out for more.

The funniest thing is we saw what happened with this approach with DmC and Donte - people hated it. This moralising bullshit of the times. Then it was Occupy Wall Street shit and now it’s rapefugees.
I liked donte. He was earnest naive edge. Although I'd argue the lore was stupider in that game then in Netflix.

I laugh at the scene where he orders his men to kill all the demons in the buildings because, until she was saved by the demons, Lady would have unironically been all for his plan and was ready to unload on the cute, big eyed demon child. And then we cut to the shapeshifter waking up and witnessing the killings and be disgusted that these human monsters would kill innocent demons... In the same episode where it's revealed that the demon group have been kidnapping and experimenting on both human and demon orphans and threatening to execute them if they don't comply.
