Petition to make a Tariff general thread?
Some of you guys want to split off every topic that passes through the news cycle.

Tariffs are the biggest topic in American politics right now, and there would be no future for a tariff thread once people have this out of their system.

Also a lot of people legitimately have no idea what to expect to come from it, so there’s genuine interest in reading some of our autistic back and forths.

Since the protest shit happening today is largely in response to the tariffs, what would we be talking about if we couldn’t talk about the tariffs? Infrastructure in Albuquerque?

I at least appreciate that people are making their own goofy ass signage and dressing up rather than everyone having the same 'nice' glossy corporate signs mass produced at a copy shop. Its a nice touch honestly.

It's a reframing move, they've had to admit everybody does the bad tariff thing to us, and now they're on to claiming the calculations don't make sense. Now that everybody is clear "free trade" means "drain the US" it will be used as political pressure to get protectionist Legislation passed short of the EO.

This is an attack on both offshoring, and a strike to the Democrats, in their core rustbelt base. If Trump gets trade reform, expect major union campaign, and center-left Democrat support for Republicans in the mid-terms. They've been bitching about trade since the Japs in the '80's.

yeah tbh I'm having a tough time seeing as anything other than a (reasonable) gamble
if this shit can work it's literally the death of the democrats after the USAID and all, if it fails the economy was going to collapse anyway so whateer I do what I want

It’s also insane pressure on China, because we’re in a position to squeeze 100% of their trade surplus. The lady in the stream I linked a few posts up is going through how while we directly import like $400 billion from China a year, that figure doesn’t count pass throughs and general pressure. For instance, China has a $200 billion surplus with Europe, and Europe has a $200 billion surplus with us. The other Asian countries have a $200 billion deficit with China, and an offsetting surplus with us.

By charging tariffs to EVERYONE, we’re reducing their ability to export to us and import from China. Clogging up the works. We’re shutting down China’s exports.

We’re winning world war 3 with no shots fired

If this leads to the CCP losing the mandate of Heaven and cause China to go into years of in fighting. If the CCP goes then North Korea isn't really needed any more.

That’s not the point I’m making. Union guys don’t care how the pension is funded. It’s guaranteed. Whether the companies are worried about supporting the pension is really not on their minds at all. Some plans have a market-based component, but it’s thought of as more of a supplement.
This may be a clock post but you need to research the pension benefit guarantee corporation. 100% of a pension is absolutely not guaranteed.
