But why is he rich? If you researched his past his family was already rich, he was handed everything, he was able to continue from failure to failure but taking credit for the successes due to his rich family and connections. He's a complete fraud, like if Chris Chan was born to the Rothschilds or something. I know its a bit extreme but it's kind of the point I'm trying to get across.

He did not buy PayPal, he co-founded X (a payment processor like PayPal) and then PayPal bought his company to reduce competition, and let him be a higher up in the company.

Someone explained this earlier in the thread but basically he used to have an amazing PR team that successfully hid his power level and built that image for him. Even if you didn't like Elon back then, there wasn't really much ammo to mock him with. Then he decided to take matters into his own hands and here we are today.

I'd always heard he wanted to rename paypal to X and got rejected. If this faggot wasn't even involved in Paypal's infancy he really has claim to nothing besides falling upwards all the time.

SpaceX isn't more valueable than Tesla, but yes, Musk's ownership of SpaceX is in theory more valueable than his ownership of Tesla now since he owns less of Tesla than SpaceX.

The big difference here is that SpaceX isn't publicly traded, so its value is a bit more theoretical and it's a bit more complicated for Musk to sell his shares (This also depends on what restrictions SpaceX has for selling shares). This is why Musk is using his shares in Tesla as collateral for his loans. So Tesla is basically where his money is from at the moment.

Using his shares as collateral means that as the stock value of Tesla plunges he might be forced to sell them if the lenders starts thinking they won't recover.

Him being in politics benefits both companies. He wants to get rid of restrictions and laws that he thinks hampers both Tesla and SpaceX (and his other ventures obviously). Both companies benefit greatly from government grants and subsidies. SpaceX has probably received quite a bit more than Tesla overall, and probably has more potential there as well, especially with government contracts etc, but you can also get big government car contracts with Tesla. The possibilities are endless with shamelessness and corruption to the very top.
