100%. My mother has been a mortgage banker for probably 45-50 years now. I remember this well - she kept getting in trouble with her boss because she would refuse to approve the loans. She'd tell them, "Look at your numbers. You can't afford this mortgage and they're gonna take your house" and the people would get pissed and just go to another bank and get approved and her boss would scream at her. She called the crash months before it happened. She'd come home from work and tell me, "I have no idea what this country is doing but they keep giving endless loans to people who can't afford them". She told me to start putting money aside and that we were gonna be in a lot of trouble in a few months. Then the crash happened.
Basically the banks just started handing out loans to every nog and spic who walked in the door knowing that they couldn't afford it because the banks wanted the property. Most of these people defaulted by the 2nd payment and the banks took their houses. This is how, when you look up at how much property banks own, it's staggering. It was all a plan to transfer assets to banks.

A friend of mine who's very successful in music told me he worked for two years on wall street in the 80s. He said he made a ton of money and could have stayed making a fortune but he said that everyone on wall street is a fucking sociopath and he literally abandoned everything and reinvented himself and changed careers because he was so desperate to get away. He insists that the American Psycho movie is tame compared to how finance bros actually are and insists that I will never understand how fucked finance people are in the head if I haven't worked around them on wall street. During Covid they kept trying to skew the statistics to scare people. All CNN kept talking about was how many people died in Italy or something and how many died in America and how much worse America was than Italy and we were in for nonstop massive death. My fiancee was freaking out when she saw the broadcast and I told her to calm the fuck down. I told how the news is skewing shit on purpose to do exactly what she's doing and that Italy - all of Italy - has like 3 million people and that's it. I told her Manhattan has something like 3.5 million so there's more people living in Manhattan than there are in Italy. You want accurate Covid numbers, compare Italy's covid cases to Manhattan's. And even then, there's still more people in Manhattan so it's not totally accurate. Then I looked up the numbers and showed her that we were nowhere near the numbers of Italy and to calm the fuck down and stop watching that shit. That they do that on purpose.

I just want to interject here with a different observation. My mother, as I mentioned earlier is a long time mortgage broker and does a ton of reverse mortgages and I hear her on the phone every day with people (my mother lives with me and my fiancee. She's 82 and still works full time though)! I've heard the calls for years and years. It's been my honest observation that the people calling for reverse mortgages aren't the "I'm a boomer and fuck my kids I want my money now to spend on me" people. The calls she gets all day long is shit you can't believe and it's people who mostly don't want to leave their house to their kids because their kids are horrible. At one point I told her that I can't believe she takes calls every day like that without needing counseling like a 911 operator. Just a taste:
One woman calling for a reverse needed the money desperately because she's in a wheelchair and disabled. She has a daughter but the daughter refuses to help her and ignores her. She's broke and asks her daughter if she can help out with money but the daughter tells her she has none. Meanwhile the woman said, "She bought tickets and went to two concerts in one week and if I ask her for a little money to help with food she tells me she has none". This woman needed an aide as well because she's confined to the wheelchair and when she asks her daughter for help her daughter outright tells her no and that she's not there to help her mother. So this woman figured she'd cash out the house so she can get the help she needs, get food in the house and fuck her daughter inheriting the house.
One guy was in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant. His wife wants nothing to do with him and refuses to take care of him. He needed the money for medical expenses related to the transplant. He didn't care if his wife loses the house because she wasn't even going to the hospital to visit him and spent most of his money buying shit while he was sick. He was a fireman who had a massive heart attack or something during a fire and deteriorated from there. My mother though, God bless her, once she heard this she actually reached out to some lawyer friends because somehow she knew that if he had the heart attack while on the job, the Fire Department was liable for his transplant or something but they were being dicks hoping no one realized it. She got some lawyers involved and the Fire Department crumbled instantly and covered the transplant and his medical expenses and he ended up getting the transplant and didn't go through with the reverse mortgage. He's still friends with my mother and calls her at least once a month to catch up and insists he owes her his life.
One woman called for the reverse mortgage because she was 90 and terminally ill with just a few months left. It turns out that her niece did some kind of fancy footwork and got the old woman to sign a lifetime estate for her house to her. This woman had been trying to get it voided and for whatever reason couldn't. She was furious that her niece was attempting to steal her house outright from her while she was dying and so she did the mortgage because she wanted to give all the money to whatever charities she supported and in her words, "In a few months, I'll die and my piece of shit niece is gonna get the house she stole. With a nice mortgage on it that she can't afford".
Probably the saddest was a man who was elderly and all he had was his grandson. His grandson was a thug and never around anyway and a druggie. My mother tried really hard to talk him out of the reverse mortgage saying that his son was going to take it (My brother was a lifelong druggie who eventually overdosed so we have experience with the type) but the old man insisted he needed the money. So the reverse goes through and a few weeks later my mother gets a call from the police. They need her to be some kind of witness or needed a statement. The old man got the money and his grandson tortured him to death to get him to hand over his bank account info. So they needed some statement from her saying how the old man had told her he was afraid of his grandson and how the kid was a loser.
That's not even counting just the stories in general that show how fucking horrible people are - shit one more. She did a reverse for this guy who was a champion bodybuilder in the 60s. No kids. No wife. But he was like 90 now and needed some help around the house so he just wanted the money to pay for an aide. After like two or three months, his friends can't reach him for a few days so they call the cops to do a wellness check. What do they find? Turns out the guy had a stroke at some point and was virtually paralyzed. Does the aide call for an ambulance? Fuck no...she dragged him to his bed, put him in his bed and over the next two days completely drained his bank accounts, sold off whatever possessions of his she could, took all that and fucked off back to fucking Haiti or something and left him there paralyzed, wasting away in bed until he died. By the time the cops got the call for the wellness check he was dead and they admitted they're never gonna find her.
I could go on for the new few hours easily with plenty of stories like these. She never gets calls like, "Hey, I'm a boomer and me and my wife wanna buy an RV and travel and fuck my kids!" or "I need a 3rd house!" It's always people that are alone and elderly (no kids, husband died recently, all alone) or people in bad situations like not enough money for food and bills and the kids absolutely refuse to help or outright neglect or abuse them.
The only thing I've really learned from watching her do reverse mortgages is marry well and build a strong family. Because most of these people that call her are in this situation because they have absolutely no one or their spouse couldn't give a shit about them, or they have kids but their kids are utter disrespectful trash.
