It’s not even about the risk factor, really. They just grew up hearing about Christians persecuting heretics, and burning Galileo, etc. so it’s performative rebellion against the only “oppressors” their western centric world views are aware of. To them, the Saracens were totally innocent and the Crusades were just genocide, rather than two fanatical religious empires waging holy war on each other. I guarantee self preservation has nothing to do with why they avoid poking fun at Islam, they’re just ignorant.

I can't completely agree with this, especially considering I used to be a SJW and am still friends with quite a few. Maybe some of them start out ignorant and not knowing much about Islam, but if you run in SJW/Atheist circles, you can't avoid learning about Islam and Muslims. They will eventually learn that Islam in present day still terrible and dangerous, way worse than Christianity is or ever was. In fact, this knowledge is a common point of contention that causes serious cognitive dissonance for the baby SJW/Atheist; how can they believe that white Christians are the literal worst and most oppressive religion, when they aren't the ones currently owning slaves, marrying children, stoning gay people, or supporting corrective rape or honor killing for "misbehaving" women? Worse, how come you can make fun of and shit all over Christians and nothing happens, yet if you talk bad about Islam or show a picture of their prophet, you risk getting acid thrown on your face or beheaded?

For the reddit SJWs/Atheist types, you can really only go one of two ways when confronted with this information: admit that maybe shitlibs are wrong, or double down and pretend that Islam is actually the Religion of Peace. They choose the latter not only because they don't want to admit being wrong, but also because they know damn well it's way safer to criticize Christianity.

Eh, put it in a simple way, for them, anything they consider a "minority" is something to protect, and the "majority" is the oppressor.
Just to show how shallow they can be.
