There's a lot of genuine discussion that still happened on the site, even after all the spikes in users and other dust-ups with drama. Lots of generals as you said with earnest conversation and regular users, it sucks if it's gone permanently. I hate seeing stuff like this die out over time, call it nostalgiafagging but the site did serve a role as the internet's most accessible niche for being (relatively) free speak your mind, even with jannies being trannies. I think the gems made it worth the shit, no pun intended. One more step towards the sterilization and consolidation of the net.

Real talk, is there  any decent surviving non-pozzed site (other than this one) where you can just hang out and discuss hobby/interest stuff in a genuine way? Everything else seems oriented around soapboxing and clout chasing nowadays and enough has been said about the state of 4chan.

Dunno if it's been mentioned but as a former /cgl/ gull I think the current state of egl encapsulates my woes. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are just full of fake people trying to build a cult of personality with cheap consoomer trends for their own gain, Reddit is infested with entitled newfags and predators under the guise of inclusion, 4chan was unusable due to coomers turning it into a borderline red board, splinter groups like threads on lcf are too inactive to be worth anything, old blogs are long dead and decomposed, large public Discord servers are an unholy mix of the crowd from Instagram/TikTok/Reddit now with added trannyjannying, and any of the mythical supposedly good private servers are still Discord—plus I dunno how you're supposed to get into one since it's a catch-22 of needing to know a sane person to find a place to meet sane people. All I wanted was a place to sperg peacefully about my autistic dresses with other true and honest autistic women

This is the part that gets me. Where else am I going to talk about my obscure Japanese games? No, I'm not going to use Discord. I'm sad that 8kun is entirely Qanon shit, 8chan at least had some discussion about actual hobbies. If only Matrix was more fleshed out.
