Careercow Anthony Cumia - A once successful radio host crashes and burns, turning on all his fans and the drama around it

Just my opinion, but his character interjection sucks now more than ever because all he does is Chip. Chip stinks.

He's more or less abandoned Uncle Paul, Ted Sheckler, Edgar Mellencamp, Frunkis, Boardroom Jimmy, Coach Jimmy, Steve from Yellowstone, Marmalade Sally, etc. All of them were funnier than Chip.
God, I agree with this so goddamn much. Chip is literally the worst character out of all of them, but it's the one he's hung his hat on. Boardroom Jim and Jimcy were incredible, but he abandoned them completely.

Jim's standup is not only bad but it's also really dumb. It was just crass without a point and feels like an early embarrassing set that an older comic would look back on with shame.
why he never just incorporated his characters and bits from the radio into his stand up i'll never know. "i have it rough, i'm so poor i have to live with another comedian he's named chip.....my landlord is such a creep, we call him uncle paul.....the guy who works at the gas station named Ted...my neighbor is named Edgar"

"your dumb shirt reminds me of this thing i really hate...."

"my parents always wanted me to be a _____, could you imagine _____ jimmy?"

Its not like he refused to do the characters either, he was always doing Snarky Guy or Regular Joe type silly bullshit on RedEye
Chip is literally the worst character out of all of them, but it's the one he's hung his hat on
you think Paul Reuben's friends feel the same way about Pee Wee? its almost based on the exact same thing, childish, almost retarded open mic comics with bad jokes. its also the most accessible of his characters, like the retards in the general audience probably don't understand why Regular Joe is funny.

He said some of them hurt his voice, which is believable with Ted Sheckler. But the others were Norton being lazy and not bothering to try. At one point he's just making Uncle Paul voices while every one ignored him on the O&J show, because he knows "pretending" to be an old child molester is funny when you're pushing 50 and people can go through your radio history to see what kind of dumb shit you've admitted to. Brilliant move by a guy who raped an underage drunk girl on the show, right?

I spent the last year at work working by myself listening to the entire XM history I could find from day one forward. Fucking PATRICE, came up with more material for the show than Jim or Ant did. People bitch about the "HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON", but up until the merger, Opie had more hits than duds with his bits. Ball bag mousetrap, Patty in the Krusty the Clown mask feeling for checks (O&A fans donated money to help her pay her back rent so she didn't get evicted.), gambling on Twitchels' tourettes (This one will always be my favorite Patrice day since he and Opie molded that bit in to something fun. Damn shame they let Twitchels move around later in the bit).

I pity those who learned of O&A after the merger, because they got the very worst of the show, and even then they could still pull off some great days... usually when Jimmy wasn't there. Shocking. Two episodes I love from the merger years. Opie and Jay Mohrs with Ron Bennington, interviewed Paul Reiser and Mohrs and Opie may have made retard kid jokes in front of Reiser.. who has a retarded kid. Then another day where I think the whole crew was in and Jim Jefferies was there before he cucked out. They interviewed John Ratzenberger. Jefferies knew him from Gandhi too, so the boy's AND Ratzenberger made jokes for a good 20 minutes where his character, Cliff Clavin was in Gandhi. Great show.

I wouldn't put it beyond Jim that Chip is his alpha multiple personality. He refers to chip in the third person when talking about decisions "chip" made and it's his conduit for all his unfunny jokes he wants to make but not get humiliated for.

Or maybe Chip created Jimmy to protect him against monster rain and his early stand up career.

I love how when I search "Jim Norton old stand-up" on Youtube, this video comes up for me.

Jim has kissed so much ass for so long that he’s going to go to his grave without being held accountable for this. People who’d love to talk about it to screw over Cumia don’t want to upset Jim.

Can you imagine if that girl decided to speak up about it? All three of them would be utterly screwed.

It would breathe a lot of life into this thread. :D

@CapricornusRex O&A post merger was an entirely different show, Opie was basically a vestigial part, instead of shock jock stuff that put O&A on the map, it was now a "hang" and where comedians sat around all day. basically a slacker commune until CK, Burr, etc. either moved on or died. like the neighborhood stoner who let anyone join him in the basement for nintendo and weed, people either moved on or died and he just faded away

Because he wasn't clever enough to incorporate them organically and probably didn't want to get roasted for being a shittier Jeff Dunham or Dane Cook. He would get raked over the coals after making fun of impressionists for years upon years and then turning into one.

Additionally the characters work best with a second person to bounce off of - they kind of wither and die outside of the context of a radio show. Patrice once said that Norton "skyrocketed to Middle" and it's the best assessment of Norton's career I've ever heard.

If only being an opener, middle, and closer meant something nowadays. I've seen too many comedy shows where the opener has the strongest performance and the closer bombs.

Holy fuck am I surprised to see this back alley Tunisian knife fighter and the petri dish kid still getting any attention in 2025. Jumped off that wagon long ago when the content just became hateful rhetoric with all the joy and wit sucked out of it, but I see there's some catching up to do.

And it's sad, because those shows where there's no antagonist to help Ant be a cunt, they put on a good show still. I think the ONA goes are far too nice with calling Norton a worm. He needs to be something far more parasitic because he fuckin destroys every relationship he has.

Jim has heavily implied that Chip is him mocking Opie.

O&A was never good
BABA BOOEY!
