One of my friends has been going to therapy for years and the way she describes it it just sound like she is paying someone to be her friend and have someone to listen to her moan. I point blank asked her one time how this is any better or more productive than going for a coffee with a good friend and she didn't really have an answer. I don't really see the point of it all other than ripping money off of emotionally vulnerable and naive people.
At best its an incompetent idiot who isn't helping you in any way and at worst its a malicious grifter ripping you off.
When people talk about therapy, they almost always mean Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is only effective for women, this is because of a fundamental difference in male vs female psychology.
When a man feels bad about something, he will find a way to attack the source of his problems, and if he can't, he gets depression.
When a woman feels bad about something, she will complain about it to other women, who then gas her up until she has convinced herself that her problems aren't actually problems.
Women, unlike men, do not attack the source of their problems, they only ever address their problems at the emotional level, by changing how they feel about it. This is exactly what CBT aims to do, and is completely incompatible with male psychology. If you gave a depressed man all the compliments in the world, he would still be depressed, because the source of his depression would still remain. But for women, this is exactly how they like it. Therapy is extremely appealing to women, they have a captive audience (another woman), who is legally barred from gossiping about her, and who is only allowed to say nice things to her.
Men who try CBT often experience it as an almost insulting practice, since they're usually justifiably angry or understandably sad at something, and the therapist is trying to get them simply to change how they feel about the whole thing, but women love it.
This is without even getting into the reality of BPD and the sources of female "depression" (not real).
