Pardon me for getting philosophical but have you ever wondered why God chose the jews as his chosen people? I found myself asking that question... by all accounts the Jews were the most ridiculously stubborn group of people. Then i thought about how much God loves and cares for us and i realised that he clearly chose them BECAUSE they were stubborn. Think about it God gave them signs wonders and miracles and they kept not listening to Him. and then they'd get in trouble and he'd free them only for them to do it again. If thats not an example of God's unconditional love for us idk what is. I think he simply wants to show us that there is no sin that he will not forgive us for and this is his way of doing so.

I'd say the Israelites (I am talking about the current Jews, not the ones that existed prior to Christ's birth and subsequent death) lost their status of Chosen People after the crucifixion. In my opinion (I am not nearly as educated as the average priest/pastor, I'd suggest you inquire about this to your local one.) to be truly "Chosen" you need to accept Jesus' Word and follow it to a t. This doesn't mean just following Church tradition, the most important part of Christianity is your personal relationship with God.
