You can basically be sued for anything in the US. Remember that Joshua Moon (figurative retard) has also spent almost 10 years in court arguing over copyright infringement with a literal retard over a book that sold 10 copies. Patrick Tomlinson sued a forum and had to pay the admin's legal fees. There is no way to write a script that hurts someone's reputation without risking getting sued.

Nail on the head. While generally speaking, if you watched and enjoyed his content before, this lawsuit shouldn't affect what you'd typically expect going forward. However this moment pretty much shot any and all of his credibility, and even if what he's recounting is "factual", there will now be a significant number of people who will doubt whether he's actually telling the truth or not, and even puts doubt into past videos he's made covering cheating scandals and figures like Jirard. Seeing how he's currently bleeding subscribers, I wouldn't be surprised if his channel starts shrinking in views too, because people will bitch in the comments on how he scammed $200k from people and that he's not trustworthy.

I have no proof of this but this is just an assumption. Do you think Karl is/was botting likes on his "I Lost" video when it initially was posted? Because the screenshots in this thread show a ratio that seems very obviously cooked given how monumentally Karl fucked up and how so many of the people leaving comments everywhere were saying some iteration of "I had no idea the suit was about the Apollo suicide, Karl kept saying it was about DK cheating, wow fuck this Aussie nigger". The only people kissing Karl's ass are the ones in his Discord server, and there is zero chance those people outnumber everyone else by a ratio of like 8 to 1.

I get the impression Karl posted that video and then bought thousands of likes for it that way people would see that it had sooooo many likes compared to dislikes and, perhaps, mistakenly assume that Karl was genuinely just fucked over in this whole mess and still lap up his drivel in the future. Those people also probably wouldn't watch the video either, they'd just see that Karl posted a big summary of events, got a zillion likes, and assume "yeah okay he's probably in the right and that evil CHUD Billamy Mitchelson paid off the judge". Or whatever. Maybe the reason why his "I Lost" video kept getting delayed is because when you order botted likes from something like Media Mister for example it can take "up to three days" for your purchase to go through and be processed.

One thing this site should have taught me is their arcs are inevitable. I liked a couple of jobst's speedrun breakdowns but forgot about him for years. Then he popped up here for crying over a pointless golden-eye achievement and I thought, oh no, I hope he laughs it off, admits he was being a douche that day and gets back to normal. I forgot about him for years again. And now this. I really should have known.

It's possible but the vast majority of YouTube watchers literally can't even see the dislike count let alone care about it.

That is also true, it's only visible to people on desktop with a browser extension and the vast majority of people who use YouTube are human cattle who just watch algorithm slop on their phones. That's really the only drawback to my theory, though even still the number of likes are visible no matter what so even if a layperson couldn't see the dislike ratio they'd still see 10K likes right off the bat and that might still be enough to sway their opinion.
