Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

The animated trailer for Izzzyzzz's super quirky slice of life pilot's out. Can't discern why but it feels so godawfully similar to a couple of other pilots, or well, animations generally. What is it trying to emulate? The old 2000s animations? Old YouTube animations? A certain style? I can't discern. Knowing how popular this creator is, I'm not surprised if Wastelandia will gain a huge following like with Kiana Khansmith's pilot. I can smell the $50 Makeship plushies in production already.

There's also an official description of the show, "Wastelandia is a slice of life comedy series which follows neurotic dropout Zoe, ambitious art student Alice, and terminally online retail worker Moth as they navigate their early twenties and all the weirdness that comes with becoming an adult."

Huh, a terminally online retail worker character... where have I seen such a character before...

Either way it's mega gay.
It really reminds me of this cartoon I watched a few times called Power Records. Came out 2022.

For me, personally, I feel the more concerning inevitability is when the staff and their show inevitably receive criticism from outside their bubble, they'll try to reflect all of it with the usual "B-but art & animation takes a lot of time and effort, and we're just a small independent animation studio™ with no corporate backing. No one else will take us! Please support us by buying merch and subscribe to our Patreon, we're begging you!" shtick.

Another pilot's out, now being The Gaslight District from GLITCH Studios, was premiered as a stream but ended a few minutes ago. I have to say, it's quite the tonal whiplash from TDAC, that's for sure. Worldbuilding's intriguing, voice acting's pretty good, and the overall set up of the pilot kept me in my seat the whole time. Have to say, it's a promising pilot. More out there than whatever Izzzyzzz is concocting.

Though, the only nitpick I have of it is Mel's VA. Sounds like I'm hearing a comic dub VA than a VA integrated into the world. I suppose it make sense since, from what I could get from the pilot, she's a human compared to the rest of the society, who are disfigured and skeletal-like. You can tell from one scene where her human skin is shown through her disguise, so from that alone I can discern it's one of those "Human tries to fit into a society of individuals completely different from them in order to not get caught." sort of stories but... that's my thought. Would like to hear what y'all think of this.

And yes, they immediately pulled up in the trademark Makeship plushies after the episode ended.

Exact same vibes I get from Night in the Woods. But probably even gayer.

This will be another pilot production stretching for a long time with no concrete results but incoming revenue, I can feel it.

I'm surprised they were even allowed to make that outsourcing gag with how much Disney likes to larp as if it's the same studio with artistic intergrity.
Disney TVA's weird. Early on, they produced series that were more in-line with what Disney was known for, such as DuckTales, Goof Troop, and spinoffs of renaissance-era films like Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Then in the late 90s, they acquired the rights to Doug from Nickelodeon, which was pretty much the turning point for them. Most of their shows from then on out were made with the intent of competing with what Nick and CN were doing. (Recess, Pepper Ann, Teacher's Pet, etc.)

Well the Gaslight District was released how is everyone's reaction to it, as I guess any old retard can make a show now.

I like the visuals. I like the designs except Mel's, it reminds me too much of Viziepop. The music was too loud in some parts to the point it drowned out dialogue. It has potential for sure. Hopefully they don't go the way of spindlehorse and ruin it with fujo shit.

I heard The Owl House creator Dana made it. Which is a surprise. Considering Viv had shit talked her.

Just watched it. I didn't know what the fuck was going on.

There's also another upcoming show that's trying to do the 2000's animation style, but really fails called "I Wanna Eat Your Guts"
It's so unbelievably unfunny...
