General Wrestling Discussion

how does Becky have that much politicking power to the point she can make creative push a wrestler she likes, and you can tell its an inorganic push with how fucking quiet the crowd gets every single time she's on screen
Lyra's been presented very strongly since NXT UK. This concept that Becky is somehow secretly responsible for Lyra's push seems kind of deranged to me.

Why do wrestling fans have this almost deranged mentality that if they personally don't like a wrestler they have to start pretending and arguing that no one likes them? Just say you don't like her and move on instead of making claims like that.
It's not even that I don't like her. She's completely immaterial. They handed her a belt and she's done absolutely nothing since. I don't even think it's her fault, creative has given her nothing to work with. If they replace Bayley with Becky, who's not wrestled in what, a year and put the belts on them tonight they are flirting with another Charlotte disaster where the fans turn on the babyfaces because one of them just showed up and was handed a belt... again.

I'm looking forward to tonight. Kinda struggled with my bike ride today but fuck I had some fun shit posting last night. This only happens once a year so I'm having a good time. Omni Cena needs to win tonight, He needs to finish his story and kill Homelander Rhodes.

She has good matches. And no, no one will turn on Becky like they turned on Charlotte. Some terminally online people will, but that won't translate to the stadium. Charlotte is not good at being a babyface, people will always boo her. Becky is extremely likable.

The booking I can agree on. On the build to Wrestlemania a lot of the midcard players have been very neglected. They should've done Lyra vs Becky for the IC and Bayley vs Roxanne.

Apparently the smarks hated last night but I don't care, it was good for me.

Gunther and Jay's match was a low point but still servicable. Any match Jay gets through without a big botch is a victory, this feud has run its course and badly needed to end on a relative high point, this served that purpose. Gunther tapping out in the end works with how chickenshit he has acted in the past few weeks, my quibble with how quickly he tapped out is minor and if they go on to explore Gunther's shift from a beat-you-in-the-ring wrestling heel to a backstabber, I won't care. Uso will always get yeeted no matter what he does and putting a belt on him was a natural choice for that, IWC losers can't stand it but they aren't tastemakers and booking for them is a dead end for business.

Tiffany vs Charlotte was easily the lowest point in the show for me. I've enjoyed Tif in the past but she has bad in-ring flow with Charlotte, who looks like a melted plastic bag and has never looked more awkward in action. Thin blond bimbos have already been a tired look for decades, and I like how Tiffy is a bit of a parody of that, but when you put her across from the blond bimbo played straight without leaning on the parody, it damages the appeal to me. The fact that Charlotte has consistantly been a dead fish on promos has not helped. This works for me because Charlotte is dogshit and she doesn't deserve the belt even if people hate her and wabt to boo her, but still, yawn.

LA Knight and Fatu I was fine with, Knight is almost always entertaining and didn't need to keep the title to stay over, Fatu is the most convincing monster they've had in a long time and should stay as such. Having him with a belt and forcing people to overcome him is a natural decision. They're both fun to watch in the ring, no real complaints.

New Day going over is the one finish I maybe don't really like, but not because I actually care about any of these people, I just wanted to see those fruity niggas get demolished. The tag team division is an absolute wasteland and the New Day feel just as stale as they were before the heel turn, but Erik and Ivar are very physically impressive and there were some pretty gnarly bumps in this match so I guess I'm fine with the asskicking delivered, I just kinda wish it went the other way.

Jade and Naomi I expected to be a make-a-sandwich match at least in terms of work, but surprisingly it was very good. The Jade-Naomi-Bianca story has some good buildup and emotion to it, and it was very satisfying to see things click with Jade and hiding her limitations behind the look and the raw strength. If she keeps learning I'll be a big fan.

The main event was probably my favorite finish of the night, if only for making Rollins do something fucking interesting for the first time in a million years. I'll hold off on glazing his part in it too hard until I see that he's gonna follow through and not just go back to dumb outfits and meandering incoherent promos while never doing anything. The work was pretty great, even if Punk still visibly gasses out in these matches. It fits the grizzled underdog thing he does now, we all know he's old and tired and broken down by now.

I find that my opinions on these big promos can change on second watching, but my first impression was pretty good. They saved a lot of the most heavily built up stuff for night two, IWC dweebs shitter-shattered over nothing as usual.

buddy the fact that you're in this thread writing paragraphs about booking and workrate means you're a smark too.
Whatever makes you happy, just be aware when niche dweeb tastes that don't factor into the normie attention that pays the bills are getting between said smarks and what's actually happening. Uso is over and sweaty nerds complaining about it till their dying breaths won't make anyone care that people who don't buy tickets anyways don't like him.

The booking isn't going to change just because 50 people per event are gonna seethe online about how they pouted instead of yeeting

Triple h decided to give Damian priest and jey uso world title reigns. Is he trying to top Vince for worst champion decisions?

That title is a joke so I'm not sure it even matters. Pretty clear to be who the heavyweight champion in WWE is and it isn't Jey Uso.

Having two heavyweight/world/universal champions has never worked and will never work.

If you don't watch weekly and just check out the ppvs WWE is very enjoyable. I watch 6-8 events a year and am thoroughly entertained. I couldn't imagine sitting through hours of this shit weekly.

This is also true when it comes to AEW. They knock their PPVs out of the park for the most part but weekly Death Riderz post main-event beatdowns fucking suck after 2 hours of watching the wheels spin on a bunch of midcard stuff.

Wrestling in general is in a weird spot right now where the TV/streaming networks want 5 or 6 hours of content a week but the only time anything of consequence happens is the big shows every couple of months.

He’ll end up like jinder and priest by the end of the year after he losses the title at ss to Seth or Drew

He probably will end up like Priest, and if H knows what's good for business they'll put him back with Jimmy when that happens. And every time the Usos do anything, terminal IWC will still be there pretending like he was never over.

no because people don’t mind the USOs. They mind a talentless nepo baby

I didn't have a problem with Gunther tapping quickly to Jey, he also tapped quickly to Ilja to lose the NXT UK championship. I do wish the match had been longer leading to that. But Jey getting his moment at WrestleMania was a good start I guess.

Who even is 'people'? Y'all need to stop pretending that a tiny cottage of snob opinions has more sway than the jubilant crowds that are actually filling the buildings. You can repeat 'talentless nepo baby' till you're blue in the face, more people enjoyed WWE's yeet phase than whatever half-baked thing you would have replaced it with. It's the right move for where the fanbase actually is.
