We’ve been indulging in this masochistic ritual for years now, but it's time, I think, to abandon the fantasy. Every attempt to flesh Tails out ends in farce. His only real skill is being near Sonic while looking vaguely panicked. That’s it. That’s the guy.

The fucking murder mystery meme VN was the first time in what, a decade?? that he's felt like he's actually done anything other than chill on the side while either saying "you got it, Sonic!" or "we're fucked, sonic!". Him not being playable in the 3d games for so long, but them still wanting to include Tails in the story is probably why he spent years just being Sonic's IT guy.
for a character that will never grow up)
How old IS tails, anyway? Because Frontiers has the vibe that it's years into the timeline, but I'm pretty sure Tails is still eight or something, the canon ages were always weird.

ive always thought of it like this:
sonic is 15 as of sa1, sonic 1 takes place four years prior and generations about five years after. that gives plenty of room for development and growth for all the characters and explains some of the personality changes a little bit in my headcanon is what i guess you call it
so that'd make takes about four in classic (tracks with his american backstory), eight in sa1 and twelve in gens. amy would be 12 in sa1, eight in cd and about 15 now. etc.

Thing is sonic 1 has sonic listed as 15 so this falls apart. Games take place years after each other and the characters either stay the same listed age for no real reason, it's one of the things you just kinda weirdly have to deal with in video games where they have character ages in the bios. Some cases they either greatly advance or cut back character ages which has been covered to death both in this thread and in general gaming trivia places.

thats why i call it a headcanon as my way of justifying why he looks 11 to me in his classic form, teenaged durin adventure and more adult during frontiers

He had development, but after he got downgraded from playable guy to "exposition guy that screams sonic help me at a guy he canonically beat a stronger version of" years back it got very sucky. Somehow worse so after flynn took over and removal of character moments in the generations port.
Yep, after 06, anyone that's not Sonic got progressively worse. As for Generations, the rewriting is bad indeed, it's allegedly to make it smoother... That's why that scene with Amy is censored, or why Knucks doesn't call Classic Sonic fat, kek.

He was supposed to be 8, but at some point Team Sonic erased the exact numbers, keeping everyone to "young", "teenager" and "adult", more or less. If you think Tails is bad, Cream is worse, as she'll be stuck as a 6 ears old something girl with no father, ever.

I think they're set months apart, not much is said about that.
Really a shame no-one bothered to try doing another rpg to flesh out worldbuilding. Then again, perhaps Team Sonic themselves doesn't know what to do with the blue rat anymore, and Flynn isn't as good as he thinks he is.

There is no point in debating their age because Sega doesn't care + they hire retards to write their games both IN Japan and USA (USA for the """translations""").

Sonic characters are all of some vague age, have no parents or families, and must never have any relationships. This will never change, ever. Some people might consider that hell. It's just Neverland!
Except shadow, who has to live with his over 50 year old trauma of his "not sister" getting shot by feds forever

Played Sonic Triple Trouble yet? It's the only 8 bit Sonic game that reaches the quality of the genesis games .
Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you—I was busy with something right after that and forgot all about replying.

I expect to play Triple Trouble soon, so good to know that it's worth looking forward to.

Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
That game is pretty fun to play despite its flaws.
That ending was actually intended to feature this song, but because they couldn't get in touch with the singer, two of the band's members wrote and performed Chosen One as a replacement. The similarities are obvious. I prefer Broken, but I like them both.

I'm lucky enough to live close enough to a pretty great arcade and they actually had segasonic the hedgehog, the track ball arcade games. It's pretty fun, I played the whole thing and while I did die constantly, thank God for freeplay, outside of the sand level it wasn't to bullshitty. You really need to spin the fuck out of that track ball, it's impossible for me to tell if it's just because of age but you really need to go ham on it for most of the game. The game mainly hindges on the wonderful sprite work which makes it worth just watching a playthough.

How's the PC modding scene for sonic adventure 1, 2, and Generations in terms of new levels, gameplay, not including all the bug fixes and unfucking the ports?

I've heard 4 is dogshit but i'll bite the bullet if its worth it.

The modding scene for the ORIGINAL Sonic Generations (Note: You must purchase a bundle on Steam to get this version now) is excellent, there’s a ton of great content for that game in particular, such as ports of the Unleashed levels (even if these are redundant), real time cosmetics swapping, a port of Emerald Coast from SA1, a Classic Tails mod that even lets you fly and doggy paddle underwater, and even some upcoming Ray tracing mods.
If you’re looking for original levels, Shivery Mountainsides is one the community adores:

I figured out 2011 Sonic generations is still by itself available via amazon for 19.99$ via gg,deals but it never goes on sale. The casino night dlc was made free starting in 2016 so dont worry about looking for the DLC.

Just putting this out there for those of you who don't want SEGA sneaking sonic 4 into your library.

Thanks Again.

Speaking of Sonic 4, a beta of Episode II just dropped and it contains a teaser for what Episode III would’ve been:
What I find more interesting is that they made this and then removed it later. I figured they were planning on having an Episode 3 with Knuckles but killed it when the 2nd one didn't do that well, but it seems like they scrapped the idea before that game was even out. Its only a bummer as if they actually made the gameplay work, a complete Sonic 4 could have been cool. The nice thing about Mania and Superstars is they actually play well. That feel is so important.

No real surprise here. The released Episode 2 feels like it was setting up a sequel only to awkwardly cuts off to a The End so you wouldn't expect one, as if you there going to make an Episode 3 but decided against it by the time the game was out the door. I wouldn't be surprised if Episode 2 underperformed because Episode 1 was so shit, but I imagine after Episode 1 getting shat on by fans made everyone involved eager to get Sonic 4 over with, especially since I don't think it was something they really wanted to do.

I don't know if everyone here already knows this, but Sonic 4 started development as a mobile title. That explains just about everything about it. The controls are simple and there's a bunch of gimmicks in the Episode 1 levels because it was meant to be played on a touchscreen. It's episodic because it was meant to be sold on app stores. But some execs at Sega of America were loud about wanting a Sonic 4 made to try and shore up good will via nostalgia baiting because all the journos and shitposters making fun of Sonic after 06 and Unleashed, so Sega of Japan looked over at the mobile game Dimps was developing and told them to port it to consoles and call it Sonic 4.

Wondering if I asked this before but fuck it, my 'tism demands I ask you guys which color you'd prefer for the 7th chaos emerald: Cyan or Pink?

My heart says pink as an extreme classic Sonic purist and I feel it'd work better both then and now with Amy getting an emerald geared to her color.
