The show has zero organic presence online compared to actually popular stuff like White Lotus, Reacher, or The Pitt. It's a niche series zombie show about a video game franchise that at this point seems almost abandoned outside of remasters and re-releases. It's not as popular as other zombie shows like Walking Dead and its dozen spinoffs. And if you consider Game of Thrones a zombie show, because of the White Walkers, then it's not even the most popular zombie themed show on HBO.

It's one of those shows like Severance or Lost where it has the biggest marketing budget so even if you don't watch the show you hear about it in the media nonstop. But when the show is over it will never be mentioned again. It won't be like The Sopranos where practically every website has people endlessly quoting the show and other shows and movies constantly reference it. It will just fade out and get replaced by the next astroturfed media property.

Astroturfing is EXTREMELY common as part of marketing campaigns today utilizing paid shills, comment mills, and bots, specifically so that guys like you get drowned out and think you're some fringe minority for not consooming the product. People don't talk about it enough, but most the support for failed properties that you see is absolutely getting paid for, and is not remotely organic. For an example, look at the literal who influencers who were hired to promote The Rangz of Powah; one of them straight up admitted she didn't even watch the show when she claimed she loved it and was so excited every episode. I have seen the same recently for Concord. I am not saying to dismiss every person who likes something awful as being a bot or paid for, but I usually attribute the highly suspicious uptick in people loving something that doesn't have any organic popularity as some sort of marketing strategy.

You will also notice that all of these "fans" disappear simultaneously every time, and suddenly normal people's opinions start getting spread instead of the paid for ones. I don't have any hard proof, but start looking for the patterns and you'll start to see it. The internet is dead and most people online aren't actually normal people but shell accounts, bots, or paid shills. I personally maintain that the best sign of whether something is organically popular is if you see positive memes and porn of it; if you don't, then it's not popular.

I'm a little confused about the complaints because Abby killing Joel is unpopular anyway, having her explain herself to him should soften the blow if anything. Then again, we're talking about people who are mad that she doesn't look like a man with a ponytail so I'm out of depth anyway.

I was surprised they killed Joel off so early into the season, I remember reading blurbs saying that they'd moved certain "big" story beats around and made some fundamental changes, implying that the death scene would happen later on.

I also found it surprising that the sequence was even worse than it was in the game. I have a lot of problems with TLOU2 and its narrative (I'm currently on my first playthru and just started chapter 4), but I thought the death scene in ghe game was effective for how abrupt and succinct it was. A lot of that being Joel's acceptance of his situation and telling Abby to fuck off and taking the wind out of her sails. By comparison, the scene in the show is drawn out and boring, and Abby's speech is pure info-dump eye-rolling nonsense.

Because the PC port was bugged to fuck, I didn't play the first game until earlier this year, after I saw s01. I didn't mind Ellie's portrayal then, but s02 really hammers home how terrible of a performance it is.

I'll probably keep watching since I don't have any other slop on my radar, but I do have to give Neill props for rug pulling the rubes once again.

idk how people can take this show seriously when the chick that plays Ellie has like down syndrome. You're telling me she's supposed to turn into a vicious killer now? She might be the least intimidating woman I've ever seen in my life.

This is like telling me there's a new John Wick type movie coming out and its Aziz Anzari playing the super assassin.

90 pound girl kicks ass is such a Hollywood cliche I barely even notice it anymore but her downie moonface and vacant retard stare is a massive fucking problem.

Not only is she the least intimidating person in existstance but her tard face ends up making me laugh instead of whatever emotion the scene is meant to evoke.

Game Joel at least was smart enough only to entrust what he did to the Fireflies to his brother Tommy, who he knows will judge him but ultimately understand he did what he had to do.

Also its another scene that shows why Pedro fails as a tough guy as when Game Joel says "I saved her...", you can just see the rage in eyes for a brief moment as it cuts to the hospital hallway full of dead bodies, you get the vibe that not only he didnt regret a thing but he would do it again. When Pedro says "I saved her", it really feels like he is coping while Game Joel means it to the point it almost comes off as threatening.

Wake up is a strong word but the fact that Im seeing almost universal acceptance that Bella Ramsey looks like a golblin potato lady, while before it was "omg, she is so perfect as Ellie", does make it seem like Season 2 isnt going to go down as well as Sony/HBO/Cuckmann think it will

Most people in the industry didnt become part of it because they are just "that good". Most of the times, they are there because of connections and are mostly chasing the glamour of it rather than a passion. They are ugly people, inside if not outside (but lets face it, most of the usual suspects look ugly on the outside too).
