The Elder Scrolls

Fantasy in general is undoubtedly the faggiest, most hypersensitive audience and creators in existence on average. Starting to alienate the average fan, especially unfortunate when the clowns doing this weren't even born or were small kids when the original properties came out and are completely bastardizing them. The rot is truly incredible from literature to Renaissance faires to films to board games to video games, particularly RPGs. I think a lot of factors are at play, but I'm going to primarily blame the fruitbowls in charge of Dungeons and Dragons and call it a day.

How so? There are many features of Daggerfall which makes Morrowind look like Weenie Hut Jr’s
>Random starting equipment, can be stuck with weapons impossible to use for your character
>Almost every quest is timed
>Can fail the main quest extremely easily
>Labyrinth dungeons with quest objectives that could be behind hidden walls
>Can easily soft lock early game by contracting a disease and not having any potions
>Daedric quests are extremely expensive and don’t even give good rewards
I always wanted to give Daggerfall a try but this just makes it sound like an RNG slogfest as well as a waste of time.

Also am I crazy or is there some kind of mass psychosis going on concerning this remake vs the original Oblivion where people are unironically pretending the original didn't have the most meme-worthy and ugly character models of all time?

I will confess; I am thinking about grabbing Oblivion Remastered for the PS5, but I will be waiting for a while regardless. Aside from $50 being a bit steep for a new game currently - like I said, I've got money issues - I've got quite a backlog of older games that I need to grind my way through before grabbing anything else. That includes the original Oblivion, which... I might be able to get it to run on my old-ass PS3, though it'll be slow going given how the system sounds like a damn airplane taking off whenever I turn it on.

Played it for 0 bucks and it’s alright. I couldn’t ever justify paying 60 bucks that I worked for just to play the same game from 20 years ago with an “unreal 5 eso-styled hybrid” paint job. I can’t recommend it unless you’re getting it for free, as there isn’t any really meaningful changes, especially not enough to justify 50 fucking dollars for the base version. I’d say just stick with the original game with a few mods and wait a couple years before modding gets decent in this weird hybrid engine. If it comes up on a hefty sale you could go for it and it might be worth it, but realistically speaking it just seems like a way for Bethesda to get good will back without doing any actual work.

Like every other Elder Scrolls game there's tons of mods out there that fix a lot of the issues vanilla has, including every point you made. You could argue that the game sucks if it relies on mods but that's pretty much every other Elder Scrolls game so it's the pot calling the kettle black. Mods go hand in hand with Daggerfall more than any other Elder Scrolls game I think since it specifically has a "freedom" aspect to the game for the player character as it is so being able to add mods to transform the game however you like is very on brand for Daggerfall. Mods also work much easier with Daggerfall than any other Elder Scrolls game I've played, not as much fiddling to getting them functional from my experience and much less of a headache, especially through Daggerfall Unity of course. To quote Todd Howard "It just works".

You could get a mod that increases the frequency of good loot but I like the fairly more realistic random loot generated, sometimes you will find something good and it makes it more rewarding but I've seen a few mods that fix the daedric quest rewards and some that give you new daedric quests altogether. The randomized starter items in Daggerfall is something I actually really like because sometimes playing Daggerfall is about playing the cards you are dealt, even if they aren't very good, some of the best times in Daggerfall are had when you are forced to be flexible to survive in my opinion and it leads to unpredictable scenarios. Sometimes the unexpected nature of nothing being certain in Daggerfall goes a long way compared to everything being under a tight script in Oblivion and Skyrim. (However it is understandably annoying when you get stuck with equipment that's literally unusable for your character.)

I don't think the main quest is all that important in Daggerfall, it's there if you want to do it but most people that play Daggerfall are probably going to skip it in favor of doing whatever else they want to do based on what they stumble on in the game. If you do set out to complete the main quest specifically I doubt there will be too much issue with the time limit, and I think the limit is more immersive (get used to this word) anyway since it wouldn't make any sense to just have the events of the main story on pause in the background because the player character would rather return to it in a month or whatever, time is of the essence, the events of the main story are going to happen with or without your player character's involvement so if you want to complete the mission in the main quest then you better get busy. I like that. There's also mods that will put the main quest on pause if you would rather that though. I'll admit that the dungeons can be pretty fucked up sometimes but I enjoy the unpredictable nature of those dungeons. When I play Oblivion for a while and have been in essentially the same dungeon over and over again I end up missing Daggerfall's huge labyrinths. I find it exciting every time I go into one even if I might end up stuck forever in there, that's why It's burned into habit to save before going into any dungeon when playing Daggerfall. You have to admit that going into these huge caverns and labyrinths is much more exciting and immersive than the Universal Studios style dungeons in Oblivion and Skyrim.

Ultimately I love how dedicated Daggerfall is to giving the player an immersive and open experience where it feels like anything can happen. You aren't locked in any box if you don't want to be in one unlike Skyrim and Oblivion if you know what I mean and the giant open world of Hammerfell and High Rock make for a very enticing game, this is something no other Elder Scrolls game has been able to recreate imo. Oblivion has a very cool "open world" moment when you first leave the sewers but that's nothing compared to first exiting the beginning cave in Daggerfall and seeing the gargantuan snowy forest for the first time. It's genuinely unexpected for a game like Daggerfall to have such an open and scale accurate world like that. When you start exploring the woods long enough after leaving that cave you end up worried you're going to get lost and die in the cold woods, It really does feel like you could be stuck in those woods for months making you feel like you are in an immersive survival situation. If you find yourself in this situation where you have shitty starter items and don't know where to go after the first cave and you've been lost in the woods for 20 minutes barely fighting off all kinds of bears and spiders and shit the relief you feel when you spot the light of a huge city off to the distance is beautiful (some of these cities really are huge, you can get lost in a lot of them. They put the Imperial City in Oblivion to shame). I've never had an experience like that playing the other Elder Scrolls games, it's unique to Daggerfall and all of that only happened to me the first time I played the game. Every time I play the game I find myself getting into something unexpectedly fun and exciting in such a raw way. You have to understand that even to this day where open worlds are the norm in games, it's not normal for games to have an open world like Daggerfall does. Some criticize it's massive open world and say it feels empty but I disagree, Daggerfall is loaded with things to do, you just have to go out of your way to discover those things to do and put work in to progress your character.

I feel kinship with Morrowind bros because they know exactly what I mean when I say there's real satisfaction with a game that only gives you what you put into it. However to me Morrowind's downsides are the small and depressing dark island of Vvardenfell the game takes place in, it's not as enticing to explore as the vast grasslands, snow lands, or deserts you can roam in Daggerfall. Some of the comfiest moments I've had playing a video game were riding my horse across the lands of Daggerfall, you can't do anything close to that in Morrowind. My other issue with Morrowind is a little controversial I know, but I don't like the combat system where it doesn't register if your weapon are actually hitting your enemy or not, it's up to a dice roll. I'm fine with in Arena and Daggerfall since those games use sprites to represent the characters and you can't really make your weapon actually make physical contact with them anyway so you have to use your imagination. With Morrowind, you will actually see your blade make physical contact directly with your enemy and it might say you missed. This infamously happens all the time in the early game and it always annoyed me (thank you mods for fixing this issue!). As for other people getting into either Morrowind or Daggerfall for the first time, I would think they would better luck getting into Daggerfall since it has much more timeless visuals that I think still look beautiful to this day and Morrowind being kind of depressing in comparison. Not to make it sound like I hate Morrowind or anything, I think it's an amazing game, It's just not the best Elder Scrolls in my opinion, and I think it's one of the harder games for normies to get into.

I got way more carried away talking about my autistic love of Daggerfall than I anticipated, que the "You expect me to read all that shit" meme.

EDIT: I put my ramblings in a spoiler box for your convenience.

That was like the Dark Souls of the 90's

I'd say less so because the point of failure in PoP is pretty obvious, and it's just a matter of playing back your motions. There's also shorter bursts where you actually have to remember vs "Oh, I'm at these platforms again. I can figure it out." In a Souls game, it's sometimes hard to pin down exactly what you're fucking up.

I have a whole theory involving what happened, but the core audiences are not the issue. I was born in the 80s, so the 90s were my decade.
>1995
>nerds playing video games, playing board games, watching anime, reading fantasy, reading scifi, reading comics
>cool people shun nerds
>nerds happily enjoy their shit
>2000s
>Call of Duty explodes
>Lord of the Rings explodes
>Marvel explodes
>Star Wars explodes
>Star Trek explodes
>Pathfinder (and by consequence, D&D) explodes
>cool people wonder what all the hubbub is
>cool people drift over and more or less seamlessly merge into nerd communities

Consequences:
>other cool people are too stupid to get into these things
>they mad, bro
>they aren't cool anymore
>they want coolness back
>they concoct plan to destroy nerdy things
>they decide to make nerdy things completely undesirable
>they tell minorities that they're marginalized, and they're excluded (despite nerdy stuff generally welcoming everyone, since nerds can't really pick their friends)
>they tell minorities to make it all about their oppression and create stories and characters that push this political angle
>garbage gets made
>they tell minorities that they just shit gold, and it's a product that everyone wants
>product flops
>they tell minorities that it's bigots that scared all the good people in the majority away
>they tell minorities to do it again to fight back against bigotry
>cycle repeats
>people get disillusioned
>people leave
>products suck
>suddenly cool people are doing their old things, looking down on nerds

I stole it and it's amusing me. I'll grab it when Steam has it for a deep discount later.

Each download gets it closer to the #1 slot.

NO!!!
It's all about profit, you see. Muh "follow the money".
It's not an ideological and (((religious fanatical))) war where money is no option because it's all about replacing what once was, little by little, until no one has any recollection of it, a few generations down the line.
It's hilarious that the ones exclusively spouting "follow the money" are also the grifting retards on YouTube who are Capitalistic extremists, more or less.

A pink triangle dislikes the game, this is the sort of endorsement money can't buy
A broken clock is right twice a day. Other than the mild visual upgrade to some aspects, there's no reason to buy this game unless you only have a console (even then, this is a game from 2006. Any semi-modern laptop can run it decently enough). The game is at best a sidegrade and not worth $50. The Type 1/2 body shit is very annoying, but it does show what they had no intention of making a decent game in the first place in addition to most of the characters and general aesthetic look like shit. Not to mention the in-game monetization bullshit in the game (as per the trailer listed here):
They have removed that trailer and replaced it with the non EU one (and I can't find the EU one at a quick google) on Steam now, but if you zoom and enhance:

1745427565820.webp

In game purchases are 16+ on the PEGI (EU version of the ESRB) ratings list. 18+ is restricted for games with Lootboxes, and explicitly requires they call it out, by law: "Includes Random Items."

Either they have a lootbox system in game no one has noticed yet, or they are planning on adding one in an update or patch. Lootboxes would absolutely require them to lock down the game from having mods available, otherwise 5 minutes after they release that shit you'll have someone add Hodd Toward, a Khajiit NPC standing next to the lootbox building offering all the lootbox rares for in game money instead.

I'm really sick of how fucking worthless modern gamers are. They know this shit is going to be garbage yet still buy it because of FOMO and then complain about the game a month later and pretend that it wasn't always shit.

I can’t believe nexus actually caved. I wonder how the trannies at resetera and gamingcirclejerk are taking it? No doubt something along the lines of “REEE THIS IS LITERAL FASCISM!”
It's already making the leftoids in my immediate circles seething like its an annudah shoah. Pretty funny to see them unironically claim that "if they dont ban this insignificant hate mod the fascists win!!!!" and getting very strange looks from the more normie members.

Still bought the game. Wanted a remaster for years and they gave me what I wanted.
Bro I know the nostalgia can hit hard but this remaster is soulless slop. If you had to play it and didn't want to get it on the high seas you could pay for a month of gamepass as I am pretty sure it's on there.

The original game still looks better than this UE5 generic ass version, and you can mod it. And somehow it's less buggy.

Don't you love it when trannies deem old media offensive because of things like gender existing in it, so they go and censor it for releases, yet they are the group that is the most lost in nostalgia for old shit.

The same tranny janny deleting the mod probably is in some kind of "game preservation" group.

The timer and the camera shit were the reasons I played maybe 15 minutes of Dead Rising and never went back to it.
frank at early levels, added with not knowing how the mall is laid out is a major filter for 90% of people.
using the core feature of "restart, but keep my level" and remembering the mall layout and when you need to prepare to fight a boss is how you get past that filter.
dead rising 1 is the only great one, dead rising 2 is when they started abandoning the timer being a bigger factor.
and eventually leading to more bad games than good in the series, and a lazy censored remake.

regardless, even if you fuck up the main quest in dead rising, the game isn't over and you can still play the game after failing,
it's that whole "doomed timeline" meme.

that's even something I would want to see in a game like daggerfall,
you outright ignoring the main quest for like 50 hours exploring, buying a house, starting a farm,
and after the main quest is failed, important NPC's dying left and right, it still doesn't effect your simple life,
until one day it does, fucked up farm taxes, and now you're on the quest to kill this bad guy faggot in this doomed timeline.
not some gay reason, just for fucking up your farm you built yourself.

I want a role playing game god damn it.
bethesda keeps doing shit like "nooo! but your son you HAVE to care"
bitch, I care more about my hat I found in a toilet than any of your forced story shit that doesn't matter.
I got way more carried away talking about my autistic love of Daggerfall than I anticipated, que the "You expect me to read all that shit" meme.
one word I can describe my small time in daggerfall, (about 70+ hours)
is ambitious, even when it's made well before my time I can't help but see that they fucking tried to make an impossible dream happen.
I don't see that at all with any modern bethesda game.

never played oblivion so i can somewhat justify buying it
almost feel bad for the skyblivion guys, they put so much work into making oblivion a real game instead of proto-mobileslop but will lose a huge chunk of support because most people do not want to deal with the old bethesda garbage engine

Off topic question here, but isn't their mods where you can murder children? I've seen a youtube video wayyy back in the day where you could kidnap skyrim citizens, rape, and murder them. Im not sure that mod is still up, but I do know the mod where you kill kids are.
Oblivion doesn't have any children (that I know of), but they usually add killable children mods for games that have them (I happily slaughtered everyone in Little Lamplight in Fallout 3).

Anyone with half a brain cell would be capable of introspection when confronted with criticism. It speaks to a vast, abyssal stupidity to be a knee-jerking contrarian who digs his heels in at having his opinions opposed.
Obviously you don't know people very well. Even the lowliest McDonalds-eating shit-herder has a measure of pride, and will react poorly if their opinions are contradicted in an aggressive manner.
And honestly, if someone can't immediately see why tranny activism is bad then they're a fucking lost cause to begin with and deserve to just be mocked and berated.
They're the majority. The only options as I see them are to either somehow make them the minority or court them, and I doubt you or anybody here has the resources to do the former. If you want to carve out a little niche where you and yours can exist so be it, but if you want to actually exact some societal change you have to dance with the normies.
