Even in TFU, the Rebels were giving the Empire a black eye left and right. I mean, Rahm Kota and his army were attacking Imperial targets with impunity; we see him first in Nar Shaddaa, laying siege to a TIE Fighter manufacturing facility. And if Starkiller hadn't appeared, Kota would've likely won. And he wasn't the most powerful card in Bail Organa's deck; he had Shaak Ti and an army of Force-sensitive Felucians and their Rancor war-mounts on hand. Even when Shaak Ti disappeared and her misguided apprentice Maris Brood took over, Brood took Shaak Ti's army of Felucians against the Empire's forces, and they were kept to a near-stalemate as the war raged on Felucia. The Empire had to bring in special forces Stormtroopers, AT-ST walkers, and Dark Troopers to aid with the occupation. The irony is George only kept the Rebellion down in The Force Unleashed era to sell the Empire as a wall of death before A New Hope. TFU was power fantasy for God of War fans, not a model for the whole Galactic Civil War. But Disney took all the wrong lessons from it. And where did Repulsorcraft like Snowspeeders go? They're cheap, flexible, and work in any atmosphere. But somehow the Rebels can't scrape together a squad of them in any of the new canon. It's just bad worldbuilding and pure laziness. I gave up and stuck with the old EU. The historical revisionists insisting on the "legends/new canon" divide can go to hell.
They wish to keep selling this idea that the Rebellion was this grassroots movement that rose from the lowest element, hence why Andor's story changed from being a cleanup man for aristocratic rebel senators to some hustler in some industrial world. But in reality, the Rebels went into battle with what Tony Montana would describe as "Class-A Chit". X-Wings, B-Wings, soldiers armed with up-to-date blaster and artillery weapons, even disruptor weapons that would be considered illegal in the Old Republic. They even had modern hovertanks to accompany their infantry forces. I think I remember them even fielding some upgraded version of the Juggernaut tank left over from the Clone Wars. The Liberation of Coruscant could have been an incredible on-screen moment. Epic fleet battles, urban warfare, the New Republic finally hitting back hard. But Disney never touched it, outside of that Iwo Jima-style flag parody. Instead, they doubled down on the Rebellion as eternal underdogs, like they're still scrapping with blaster pistols against AT-ATs decades after Endor when they are the new seat of power in the galaxy and attempting to make good on their promise to maintain the New Republic they fought so hard to reinstate.
All I wanted was to see a MC80A Mon Calamari cruiser rip a Star Destroyer in half on-screen, or at least Home One back in action under Ackbar. But no. Just more of that sanitized "we can't spare resources" nonsense. That's not Star Wars. Even in the original trilogy, the Rebels had air support. X-Wings, Y-Wings, Snowspeeders. They didn't fight alone. In the EU they even had their own equivalent to imperial armored units like the AT-ST. Where's all of the T2B tanks or some new modernized equivalent Post-Endor?
That's probably why they're sticking to GCW content. All their efforts to break past that failed, especially with the Sequels. They did and you saw what happened: they ruined any chance of having something good taking place after RotJ.
They can't create a cool and interesting new era because none of the people in charge have a clear vision of what Star Wars is.
I mean, it is the best, most mature Star Wars show, so they're not wrong. The online blogosphere acts like it's the Second Coming of Space Jesus. Article after article, video after video, even from people who slagged the Sequels and Prequels, praise it as the most mature Star Wars show.
The curse of the "lifestyle brand." Because it needs to be omnipresent to maximize sales, it needs to offer products for every stage of life for everyone (unless they're boys, or heterosexuals, or something icky and toxic like that) so it can't actually have a brand identity beyond an aesthetic.Disney Star Wars fags in 2017 after The Last Jedi broke everything: "You're making a big deal over something that was made FOR CHILDREN about laserswords and space wizards"
Disney Star Wars fags now: "Having a rape scene in Star Wars is a milestone, and offers a very mature commentary about how we're all products of rape."
Which is it?! Is Star Wars for children or not?!
It's like how Kelly Marie Tran is actually pretty good looking so they actively made her look fat and ugly for Rose Tico. I guess being plump and good looking is a no go in these times, nope you must wear an unflattering jumpsuit and have a bad haircutI sometimes wonder if there's some troll, meta thing going on where it's, "sure, here's your diversity quota," and they just fill it with the most hideous people.
There's at least on some level something going on where they stack multiple "diversity" labels onto one character. Or when they decide a character will fill out a quota, the typical standards for appearance are forgotten or deliberately ignored. Or it represents some inherent belief in what represents that identity.
It's like when I was watching Peacemaker and there's an attractive plastic surgery fake boobed, thin white chick and then some hideous obese black chick with a nose ring. I'm like, "is this racist on purpose?"
I dunno if there's a particular reason, I suspect because the other side of the Pacific has had its own movies for years and couldn't give a shit if Hollywood melted tomorrow, but Hollywood REALLY fucking HATES AsiansIt's like how Kelly Marie Tran is actually pretty good looking so they actively made her look fat and ugly for Rose Tico. Oh yeah, I forgot she molested Ben. Another one for the list.No one liked Troy Denning's hive mind bug sex and child molester Tahiri.
The "Stop Asian Hate" campaign from a handful of years ago should have been directed at Rian Johnson for that haircut he made Kelly Marie Tran wear. It's like how Kelly Marie Tran is actually pretty good looking so they actively made her look fat and ugly for Rose Tico. Asia has its own media, and some parts of it like Anime and K-dramas are well-loved in the world, so of course, Hollywood does not appreciate the competition. Especially when Asians don't give a rip about feminism or Leftist politics.I dunno if there's a particular reason, I suspect because the other side of the Pacific has had its own movies for years and couldn't give a shit if Hollywood melted tomorrow, but Hollywood REALLY fucking HATES Asians
The EU should have ended the grimdark shit with NJO. Plenty of horrible stuff happened or was attempted before NJO but the EU didn't wallow in it like it with the Vong and again in LegacyNo one liked Troy Denning's hive mind bug sex and child molester Tahiri.
Exactly. If it were up to me, the post-Vong series would focus on basic, good-vs-evil tales of the Jedi helping local societies rebuild. Kind of like knightly tales from the Middle Ages, but with starfighters and blasters. The EU should have ended the grimdark shit with NJO. Honestly The Vong conflict even by SW standards made it so that was an impossibility. They massacred trillions of lives and caused fragmentation and demoralization of an entire galaxy.Exactly. There's quadrillions of people in the SW galaxy. That's basically a drop in the bucket. A big drop, but a drop nonetheless, and it's something the Jedi can help with in healing.Honestly The Vong conflict even by SW standards made it so that was an impossibility. Disingenuous. I have never heard anyone praise the things you're talking about in relation to the EU vs the Disney era of SW, they're talking about stuff like Thrawn novels and video games which didn't feature content like that. The Chewie thing in particular is pretty widely lambasted and disliked. This is nothing compared to what the EU (The thing every Star Wars purist praises like the Second Coming of Christ) shat out during the 90's and 00's.
As much as the KOTOR remake would've sucked,
"Is this the sith teachings master yoda warned us about?"
That and with testicular force torsion. Yoda did some fucked up shit back in the days."Is this the sith teachings master yoda warned us about?"
the scene wasn't too bad, the music that played over it was a little much though.
