Honestly sitting in isolation for 40 years will do more damage to Nick than a rusty shiv would. He's an autist who was raised on a constant stream of interactive media and unfettered access to whatever terrifying porn he wants.

Staring at a concrete wall for 40 years is going to core out any soul he had and leave him a mumbling shell. Honestly if we had to trade spots I think I'd RATHER get shanked over spending several decades rotting away with no stimulation before getting released into a culture using technology that will be so unfamiliar that it might as well be an alien planet. With no friends, family, or ability to salvage my wasted life. Death would be a lot less painful.

Depending on the specific institution, some places have specific Sex Offender units now that only consist of people who've committed offenses that would get them killed in gen pop. And many times, long sentence Sex Offender inmates are transferred to such institutions. The Prison administration system knows the risk of getting another homicide on the books by keeping someone like this around.

Most likely he'll sit for a year or two in isolation and then be transferred to a facility with a specific housing unit for shitpiles like this. FMC Devens in MA has one.
