Frankly it surprises me that it simply returned in the state it was before it went down. This was a golden opportunity for a community that has become completely stagnated to reinvent itself, at the very least, have some kind of event like they used to, with music playing in the background and maybe a hat on the images or something. Not only was there nothing like that, but also there's really no room for any discussion about it, since the only board to really talk about it on would be QA, which was not re-instated; and I suspect that the jannies might be censoring or down-regulating any threads talking about it on other boards. If it was me, I would have taken this all in stride and re-opened QA with the re-launch, threw up a song like josh did in this thread, and let everyone shitpost about it for a week or so. but we all know the people that run 4chan these days aren't interested in internet culture, fun, or bants.

What this whole thing really made me realize is that the feeling of 4chan being a shambling shadow of it's past wasn't just a perception, and it all comes down to the lack of user-involvement in it's culture and management. 4chan is a prescriptive type of community, that decides what shall be talked about, and that type of place doesn't leave any room to foster culture. It exists as this opaque unchanging thing that is probably only kept up as a intelligence asset. (both to propagandize to and to monitor the opinions of the users.)

I don't really have a point with this post other then to express just how disheartening it is to watch your original stomping grounds get twisted into something so pathetic. I was 13 when I followed a link from something awful to this brand new thing called 4chan. Thinking back on how things were then, on those websites, on every website basically, eh, sometimes it hurts you know?

Thank god for this place or I think I'd be completely net-homeless.

Tell me about it. I think easily the most disheartening thing about it is that it's very quickly, yet finally metamorphosing into this "safe-edgy" bullshit enforced by jannies. I'm sure you know the kind I'm talking about. Like the kinda person who'd post bloody anime images but think saying the nigger word or calling someone a jeet or tranny is too far.
The second most disheartening thing being that people are so buckbroken that they're still willing to go back to the small hobby boards, be drawfags, writefags, etc and get inevitably invaded by nonsensical schizo spam from all sides.
I'm still not gonna call cakechan any better, but at least with that shitheap of a site, redirecting Anons either here or to some other alt imageboard isn't impossible (yet).

Does anyone have a good alternative to 4chan's /w/ and /wg/ boards? Yeah its a bit gay to only use these 2 boards but I haven't found as good as resource for wallpapers.
All the places I've found while 4chan was dead was absolutely shit. Anyone here know any good places to find wallpapers or is it all just bad?

The problem is the people running 4chan took it personally. Of course, no one wants to be doxxed. But also you put yourself in that position to be a target. It comes with the job.

The sharty hack essentially was like a continuation of the April Fools event with all the boards being shut down, and it should've been treated as such. But we could tell that the people running 4chan don't ever do anything in good spirit. The April Fools event was just a thinly veiled political attack against Trump and Elon. The message of it was, "See!? It doesn't feel good having something you like arbitrarily taken away now, does it? Now go hate DOGE for doing it to hardworking DEI hires!"

It was all political, 0 fun. There was no community engagement. At the beginning, we all thought that it was based on user activity, that there was logic to it. Like there is with what Elon is doing with DOGE. But no, it's just troon insanity. They randomly got rid of all the boards with no rhyme or reason, no announcements, no communication (sound familar?).

So we already got the ethos of the troons running the site from that event. Now sharty does their own April Fool's event suddenly and they act like they got raped. It was okay for them to shut down your favorite board, but not okay for sharty to take away their janny powers for a little while.

Honestly, the site died for me officially the April Fool's event. It was so out of touch with where I imagine the average 4chan anon to be politically aligned. It's like some moralizing tranny thing you'd see on Reddit.

Now if I was running 4chan, after recovering from the attack I indeed would've opened /qa/ again. This kills two birds with one stone. 1) You see the sharty as such a threat but you regain a lot of that userbase (in a place that you can control as well), 2) You cool down the hostility and make you seem more reasonable and sympathetic. But they're troons so of course they're going to be irrational and also unable to take a self-reflective look at themselves.

This would also make sense as to why the site had to return immediately, even in the compromised state it surely is in. The glowies don't care how many troons get doxxed. Hiro doesn't care, he's just some figurehead attached to the operation who gets a check from it. As well as the whole corporate nature of the site returning with 0 announcement about what happened, except a blog post 99% of users will never see or know exists.

The whole approach is like when Sony was down for a Friday a few weeks ago. 0 communication to the community while PSN was out, 0 communication when it was restored and 0 explanation of what happened.

It's kind of like a modern TV show, lots of gore, curse-words, and sex. But on the otherhand has all this woke censoring, no female nudity a man would find stimulating, forced interracial couples, the protagonists are all left-wing aligned. Everyone is moral but someone you disagree with you can turn into a pile of gore and laugh about it after. And if you read the script with the names deleted all the women have the same personality as men.

The script can only have the *good* kind of cursewords and the *good* kind of sexualization and the *good* kind of violence against the *wrong* people.

Maybe I'm going on too much of a tangent with this one, but 4chan is essentially a designated shitting street for normies and no longer a real community. Like the normie slop that's on streaming platforms.

Didn't want to be a double post fag but really wanted to get this off my mind. Also the least they could've done was have a Yotsuba under maintenance pic so the normies don't freak out. Especially if you're not going to make any public comments during the whole process. Leaving it on a hanging server for days was kind of ominous.

It's not only "safe-edgy", but it's also a deliberate pressure-release valve for social outsiders. In authoritarianism, there is this concept, It’s like pretending the air is fresh when it’s actually full of tiny rules, all shaped like freedom but none of 'em really mean it. It's a tactic used to give the appearance of freedom or dissent while actually controlling and containing any potential rebellion or dissatisfaction.

It's like this, imagine a town has a problem with people putting up political and cultural signs all over town, making jokes, making criticisms, think kinda like in Pompeii and Herculaneum, so the town's solution is to put up a big white approved graffiti wall, saying that you can write whatever graffiti you want on it, but no where else. Then, once they have all of the graffiti contained in one place, they start painting over the stuff that criticisms them, and on top of that they write their own graffiti, pretending to be the citizens, talking about how all their problems are caused by, well you know, someone BESIDES them. This is a thinly veiled metaphor for the government and 4chan, as I'm sure you can see.

As you say here. Most people are well adjusted, but if you're making an attempt to out-right control people, as they seem to be, you have to have a net of sorts to catch those that aren't, and direct their anger AWAY from you. What's even better is you can then use that anger. This is what has happened to 4chan, to something awful, to basically any community anywhere, sans this one as far as I can tell. It's 5th generational institutional capture weather underground bullshit. Or, to say it more simply: it's been pozzed by the powers that be and they completely raped and murdered the fucking culture.

It's extremely offensive to me to have corporate and government interests do that to something that was basically, (and you can call me cringe for saying it, but it's how I feel), the tribe that helped raise me through my teenage years. Anyways that's my rant.

https://wallhaven.cc/ is good but their tagging system can be a bit obtuse until you get familiar with it. It also doesn't serve the community side of the wallpaper threads since it's just a giant repository. Though, I suppose the showcase forum kinda serves the same function as /w/ threads. https://wallhaven.cc/forums/board/4

Thanks for that site, I didn't find that one for some reason. With that, I think I'll finally move on from 4chan, it was about time anyways. Site has been a rotting corpse since 2016 or so.

That was exactly what happened with me too. I heard too about that "joke" about the DOGE thing, the site was down. Then afterwards, I just kind of ignored it all, thought whatever, and went back. The site was unusable from there on out. Every topic is repeated same shill script over and over again all day. Posts something that I just heard differently about 1 month ago, completely flipped backwards and they have a whole topic on it. yea anyway, that's when it became unusable for me.

I tell you what it reminds me off, if anybody can remember. I remember some site with warez search on it i went to back in the day. It was so bad that later if you went to it with a fresh copy of windows Xp without any patches, you would get so much spyware you'd have to reformat and reinstall again. They started having on their, used to be blank front page, news. This news was like RSS streamed from some other site. The news was horseshit, kind of like real news but, skewed, like polls skewed or whatever. Some site where they had this talking points they wanted everybody parroting so they could try to take over the day to day discussions. I just ignored it on that site but thats what it turned into, a spyware loaded site (if you werent patched). Then it completely died. (Packetnews.com)

thats what the posters on 4chans /pol/ like how most of them are like.

I''ve been using Flickr for years to get my wallpapers. Make sure you get a script called Flickr Original Link from greasyfork.org to speed up downloading.
