Wendigoon Thread

A 7 hour podcast episode, and a good half of it is either Wendigoon defending a pumpkin-headed female JD Vance edit or calling out men for not liking it when women cheat on them. Even some of the normally obsequious fans in the YouTube comments are asking how in the Hell consequences of extreme infidelity in a horror story are "misogynistic."
I may have misheard, but wasn't it the fat goth talking about that in the story?
Because I know fat goths, they would absolutely say that shit.

Creepcast: Spire in the Woods

It is seven hours long, and comes with a big “this will get deleted because it has been taken down everywhere else” disclaimer at the beginning, with a trigger warning about rape in the description. Though the taking down everywhere else seems to be more of a copyright issue.

Wendigoon does not know how to say “Nashua”, my God.

Good. I thought I was the only one that thought that was cringy, the story is good it just has some redditisms. Only 2 hours in though.

Edit:
SHE'S FAT!
SHE'S UGLY!
SHE HAS A BIG HEAD!

It's good that they're back to creepypasta material, when they covered published stories a little while back I was scared they'd start reading things that were actually competent. That we might never get another masterpiece, like the 2nd half of I Dared My Best Friend To Ruin My Life.

This is his full-time job, too.

I think it's reasonable to expect anyone at this level to sit down before they record and look up pronunciation of the proper nouns in a piece. Occasional mistakes are funny; constant ones make it seem shoddy. And in Current Year there are all those "how to pronounce" videos to skip the weird notation (and blame if you get it wrong).
The combined intellect of both creepcast hosts weren't even able to figure out what the word "errant" meant. These two gentlemen have apparently never heard a single word in their entire life. It's best to just surrender any expectations of english here.

Is it actually worth listening to the whole thing? I tapped like like 1/4 of the way through that episode.

Imo listen to it once, then if you ever feel like going back to it probably just watch the darbo edit

There is a lot of funny to be had and personally I believe that part of what makes good-bad good is taking the bad along with it. Watching Samurai Cop is a very different experience to watching "Samurai Cop best moments" on YouTube

Meat making those jokes about Jesus having sex absolutely will not have consequences because Wendigoon is way more interested in money than, y'know, his faith - but I'd like to think he at least took a moment after the podcast to say something. I know it's a tired thing to point out at this point, but there's absolutely no way in Hell Hunter would ever make jokes about Mohammed banging underage girls or the sexual proclivities of whatever the fuck Jews believe in.

It's all the "Redpill" jokes that make me cringe. Some good jokes though. I really liked how hunter kept using the man voice for scary Kerry. The writer is clearly a male feminist though.

About 5 hours in, and I like the story so far. What's irritating me is that Wendi and MC still haven't noticed that the narrator can't be trusted after going to the clock tower. This is just a possession story told from the pov of the person being possessed. Hell the narrator even mentions at one being physically unable to pray after the encounter.

All I'm saying is that if the story was in modern times the narrator would one hundred percent be a Tate fan.

I understand it on some level... How do you know you're mispronouncing a word you've only read? Even if you've heard the word "grin-itch" you won't necessarily connect it to Greenwich.

But also that's a shit example because you should always look up pronunciations of names/places etc.

Anyway I guess I should be more forgiving about random words and less forgiving about names.

Also I am reminded of William Safire's interview of Jerry Brown in the late 70s, when the latter mispronounced 'synecdoche' and Safire subtly pointed out the proper pronunciation by using it later in the interview. Instead of being defensive or ignoring it, Brown immediately noticed and said, “Is that how you pronounce it? I'd seen the word in print, but I never heard anybody pronounce it before.”

It aged better than I remembered due to the prose and world building, but nothing happens. It's more a fucked up coming of age story than horror.

I was so fucking right that the narrator was a bad dude assaulting this chick. I’m not saying I’m a pornstar over here, but my duck game has never left someone sobbing so that’s a bit of a clue that things were bad.
I liked it, it’s hard to do an unreliable narrator like that where he explains things from his point of view but the astute reader can see the reality of what’s happening. Just a well written story in general.
My personal favorite type of literary horror is like IT. The reason that book is frightening isn’t because of the demon clown, it’s because the scariest things that happen are completely mundane humans doing scary shit that’s realistic. And then the monster comes in and serves as abstract representations of those human evils. The Spire In The Woods did that really well, the horror of the bells was obsession and possessiveness and that is manifested in our narrator stalking and assaulting this girl told from his own perspective.
Didn’t expect to listen to all seven hours today, but I had a good time.

The main character had to have consent explained to him, DA wacst atomitons and all the mentions of misogyny. This guy is a blue haired Hasan Piker viewer. Plus rape scenes that the main character gets really into(though it's careful enough to be creepy and unsettling intentionally).

I liked it but it's so reddit it hurts.

Checks out to me.

One of the things that really irked me in the story is the implication of "if you were abused as a child don't procreate else you risk abusing your children in turn". If anything it's one of the worst morals you can give that defines those people by their past (especially as it's doubtful the ones that care about such thing will grow to be abusers).
100% I don't like the messaging of the story at all.

I felt the same on Feed the Pig where the method of escaping purgatory due to suicide (something you do because it's a fast way to deal with what looks to be an insurmountable issue) is to commit suicide again (admittedly in a more painful way, but still). If anything it should be so sticking through an impossible world would earn you redemption, while feeding the pig should cause you to go to hell.

It's... a fine enough story I guess. Started out as a really good nostalgic coming-of-age thing, but then became something else entirely. Depressing, but in a melodramatic way that kinda takes away from the impact as we see this guy's life fall apart by his own hand. Kinda like The Sculptor really.

The protagonist is such an asshole though it's fucking ridiculous. I know kids are cruel jack especially preppy New Englanders apparently, but this is like Patrick Bateman levels of narcissism, misogyny, and looking down on those lesser than you. Maybe if his behavior became more extreme after he heard the bells, or maybe if he'd heard them much sooner, it'd feel more justified, cause as it stands he was already going full speed down that path and the bells had nothing to do with that.

Climax was pretty cool. Otherwise the themes are weird but this is reddit so I guess that's par for the course.
