Mass Effect Andromeda: Shitstorm Edition - RIP Biowear

God damn it Brote :story:

Also this is some fucking cosmic serendipity right here:

More on the character customizer and zero white female presets.

I find this fucking baffling.

Bloodborne's character creator let one create shambling abominations the likes of Bro Team Pill's Pelicanerry Assholethroat.

Or exotic pretty characters like this one, if you wanna go the opposite direction.

Point is, why even fucking lock the sliders at all? We know they did already, we can see it from the streams of people fucking with the character creator in the pre-releases.

Everything about Bioware's recent magnum opus seems to be about taking choices and impetus away from the player, common sense be damned. There's a point in time where we might have been able to dismiss a lot of the shit about the uglification of the female characters or the allegations that Manveer was going to fucking shove his racist beliefs into the game with a crowbar, but just like previous cases where we thought that level of crazy wasn't going to try to escape from its containment zone, here we are.

The Mass Effect: Andromeda shitstorm has only grown bigger closer to launch. I'd have to say, this is probably by favorite Bioware moment right now. The sheer amount of incompetence in their marketing along with the hilarious disappointment people have experienced from the actual game is just almost too good to be true. If developers at Bioware aren't considering suicide already then they have iron wills. Or extreme autism. Maybe a bit of both.
I don't know, Dragon Age 2 and the grilling of Hamburger Hepler was pretty good.

Fucking lol.
The moment some PC modder finds out the sliders were locked all along (or implements paler skin tones), I just want to see the backlash that will cause.

What's Manveer gonna say in response guys? Place your bets now!

DA2 marketing wasn't completely atrocious though. Actually I don't remember any of their games marketing being this bad. The amount of literal shit they have shown is hilarious. Not to mention some of the shit that they showed such as Peebee shooting her gun backwards could have been caught and avoided just by a somewhat careful eye and okay editing. The only fucking quality marketing they had all came from IGN. So they didn't even make it. It's embarrassing, hilarious, and could have been so easily avoided that I can't help but love it over anything else.

According to some of the news coming out of the pre-release player pit, there's another aspect of DA:I that's reared its head in ME:A.

New Dialogue System
For me, the biggest short-coming that his preview didn’t mention were changes to the dialogue system. Where the Paragon/Renegade options allowed us to define an ‘identity’ for our Shepard along the good and bad axis, this new system replaces it with 4 different, but ultimately indistinguishable axis. Honestly most of the dialogue options all feel like variations on the same sentiment, and there’s almost no opportunity to be the ‘bad guy/girl’. Where the paragon system produced some of the most truly AMAZING dialogue moments in the history of gaming, I’m yet to encounter a dialogue option that has so much as raised an eyebrow on my part. I am honestly extremely interested to hear how people find this new system, as I expect some will praise it as ‘realistic nuance’ while others (like myself) declare it overly-ambiguous to the point of being vacuous.

You're apparently not allowed to be an asshole anymore. In space.

A space asshole, if one will.

He's going to say something about white people on twitter

Considering he was laid off however, there isn't much he can do except that
Are you sure he was laid off? I'm looking it up but all I find were campaigns to get him fired from Bioware.

Yeah I didn't hear anything about him getting laid off.

Though I've got a sneaking suspicion that it'll happen after this game comes out. Along with everyone finding out what a racist he is when they go searching for an answer to "What in the fuck happened to this game?"

Pretty sure Manveer wasn't fired, he's just no longer working on Andromeda, which makes sense if he was the game designer. They aren't needed for the final rush to release, since any studio that isn't completely insane locks the game design and feature set super early and spends the last few months bug-hunting and polishing. Of course, on Bioware's current trajectory that may be unduly :optimistic:

I'm guessing he's just been moved to whatever unannounced project Bioware Montreal will follow up ME:A with. I'm not sure if that studio will be roped in to help with whatever new IP the team in Edmonton is supposedly making or just churn out the next Dragon Age sequel.

I can confirm from the datamines. If you're playing a straight female Ryder your only options are Liam (the black guy) or Jaal (the cat squid alien).

That seems shockingly limited.

And I'm gonna go there.... So what if you're a straight chick who's not into black guys? Your only option is a freaking alien?

Well considering there are next to no white guys in this game what choice is there?

Then again Fem Ryder's default faced brother is white and, well, we all know how these SJWs like to push deviant sexual practices.

Maybe that's because Renegade always had an element of "humans first". No bigots allowed!

Social Justice loons absolutely hate any character who does not conform to their own senses of morality. In there world, if any character other than the villain does something distasteful or unpleasant then it means the writer is endorsing that behavior.

They cannot understand someone can be a good person while not caring about gender politics.

Actually, I'm on board with this, at least with the intent.

Paragon or Renegade basically meant either/or. When you played, you essentially chose what kind of playthrough you were doing. There was absolutely no benefit to mixing and matching, in fact the games would blatantly punish you for not having either rating high enough. In ME2, the bits where Jack/Miranda, Tali/Legion fought, you needed full rating in either one to diffuse the situation, if not you had to side with one of them.

With the new system, the idea is that you choose what reaction best suits the situation or suits your personality. The problem is that I have zero faith in them to turn this into a interesting gameplay mechanic, and all it will result in is a different line of dialogue.

Waaaay back when I watched the gameplay intro video for Mass Effect months before it released, they implied that some reactions were better for some situations, like sometimes being all nicey-nicey just wouldn't cut it with some characters. Of course, that never really materialised.
