IMO the only reason to keep all these people from playing is if they've come to the conclusion that players' reaction to the game itself is worse than the perception given by the low player numbers.

I think it's gotta be this. I've not seen anyone who's had alpha access come away saying good things about the game (or if they have they've been buried underneath the negatives) so Bungie is probably terrified of having more eyes/hands on the game because it will only amplify the fumes of shit wafting off this doomed project.

If things are this bad currently I really don't see how they can ship in September. Even if they take player feedback on board 5 months isn't enough time to course correct unless they pivot and launch F2P.

They've got to be panicking, there's no way this is what they intended. I can believe them wanting to limit player numbers in the closed alpha to a few thousand (5000-6000 ish). 1500 peak after 2 additional waves of invites? For a Bungie game, I'd say this is actually worse than Concord, who no one knew or gave a shit about.

Lifting the NDA backfired it seems. The interest for alpha codes exceeded their expectations, so they made a hasty decision
to make it public and hoped to make playtesters addicted on the gameplay loop alone.

They forgot that their approach to alpha code distribution meant that 95% would play either solo or with randoms,
making the experience impossible to enjoy, cosidering the game is oriented around teamplay.

They've been saying there'll be additional tests before launch, and based on D1 and D2 there should be plans for an open beta since both games had them. There was even an alpha for D1 on PS4 that I participated in.

But with the way this is going I have no idea if they'll stick to their plans. It really depends on whether the rumors that the higher us are looking to hold on just enough to vest on the Sony deal and jump ship are true, or if they're actually interested in having a successful game.

Marauders was decent, is almost dead.
The cycle frontier died a year ago.
Same with COD DMZ.
There are others, but they didnt get any players from launch.
We are left with Marathon and ARC Raiders, both need access keys to play.

What about Grey Zone Warfare? Decent playerbase as far as I know. Sounds like you have a very particular niche of not only good, but popular and not "ancient"?

If you want one with a good playerbase, then you're probably gonna be out of luck with Marathon too, sadly. It's a shame because I actually like the aesthetic they have going on.

That aside visuals objectively look awful, both cheap and plastic which I guess is par for the course as this is a dollar store chinese knockoff of the original Marathon plus Ghost in the Shell or whatever tranime the art designers were gooning it to at the time. I don't buy that this is on purpose, as some ultra deep metaphor for something. If you've seen what Bungie has been doing to Destiny 2 you will know they completely lost the plot with reality.

If you mean Grey Zone Warfare looks good, that's not that much better since it looks like the most generic tactical shooter I have ever seen. Quite literally every single screenshot from the current Steam front page could be mistaken for a Remaster of COD4 and nobody would bat an eye. Delta Force does a better job of striking it's own identity while staying grounded in reality, shame it's a chink piece of shit.

The only one I am aware of is the Horizon MMO Sony is for some reason still going ahead with even after Herman Hulst got shitcanned. That was rumoured for a 2025 release but given how little we've heard 2026 seems more likely, assuming it doesn't get shuttered after Marathon flops and Sony has a full-scale meltdown.
