this is giving me hyenas flashbacks :story:
I was thinking Concord. I'm sure it's beta weekends peaked at around 4k lol

I wonder if Bungie have deliberately been stingy with giving out access, like how Ubisoft was really picky about who got pre-release copies of Star Wars Outlaws.

Probably. But it's more the fact that such a big chunk has already bailed out of playing/watching that should be concerning to them. And it ain't like competition's gonna be any lighter when this releases.

The alpha is so barebones in terms of progression that streamers already grinded every bit of content the game has,
meanwhile everyone else struggled to get even the first upgrades beacuse of playing with randoms or the horrible solo experience, thus making anyone
even with the passing interest, to quit the game.

Progression will be wiped in a week anyways.

I just hope Bungie listens to feedback and implements solos, it will make the game more akin to the first trailer they dropped 2 years ago
a more high-stakes extraction-shooter.

As it stands, it feels more like a BR because of the unlimited revives.

What's the point of reviving a long dead IP when the story it told is finished, no one who played it back in the day is that into gaming when they're like 50+ years old and younger people won't recognize i
Nigga I'm still here. If they did an actual Marathon revival I'd shit my pants. Well, after you pass me the Metamucil.

I know one of the maps on launch is the Marathon itself and I'm curious how big it will be. From my limited knowledge of extraction shooters, they seem to be more inclined towards open wilderness areas. If they made the ship a claustrophobic labyrinth similar to something like System Shock, I might find that more entertaining.

I think it would be more appealing to me if the goal of the game was to dungeon crawl deeper into the ship and not solely to power up for PvP. You would be fighting to extract keys to new areas, special weapons that are made to kill PvE enemies guarding a secret, narrative items that give you a chance to fight a powerful boss or have some kind of event happen. It would motivate me more to keep playing in the event I lost everything if the allure was that there was more to explore and uncover.
Ever seen Aye Mak Sicur's map? That thing lagged the fuck out of my Performa 637CD when I tried to play it back then. Marathon's maps where you went vertically were practically fucking unreadable lol

What would an "actual Marathon revival" even entail? It would just be better to let it rest in it's capsule rather than dragging it's corpse around.

Nightdive Studios remaking the old games like they did with System Shock? I have no idea if that remake was good or not, I think GmanLives was quite positive about it.

That's the best case scenario I can see for the IP, because no one currently working at Bungie has the ability to make a competent sequel, as evidenced by this unfolding shitshow.

It's pretty good. Probably the definitive way to play the game unless you're a nitpicky purist but I can understand if anyone feels that way. I wish they were gonna do the same with System Shock 2 but that looks to be more in line with a simple remaster.

I think the original is still available on Steam if you want to double dip, remastered so it works on modern machines.

This dude is positive about quite literally everything he gets paid to shill, why would his opinion matter to you?
Also, the three Marathon games are free on Steam right now. There is no need for a remaster or a "revival".

I loved Marathon as a kid but have met maybe two people ever who give a fuck about Marathon. I don't understand why it needed a sequel in a meme genre completely antithetical to what the originals were.

It doesn't, Bungie simply needs money and all they have without gaylo and destiny is this old franchise. If MOBAs were still super popular, they would turn Myth into one, but thankfully they forgot they own this one.

Exactly my point, if you want to nostalgia bait, how many zoomers playing extraction shooters give a shit about Marathon? A "we have halo at home" styled shooter would probably do way better as a cash grab.
Or even to get in late on the DIY game phenomenon and boomer shooters; just release Aleph One: Two with an enhanced map map maker, get matchmaking or some official servers for netplay, release it for 39.99 after doing three months' work to integrate some off the shelf networking component, adding a couple buttons to Forge, and making a map pack of their own.

Journofag and longtime Bungie bitch boy Paul Tassi is hitting the panic button over the alpha's shit player numbers

He's an annoying faggot, and misses the mark on a lot of things. But this time he's right, which isn't difficult. It's the most obvious thing in the gaming world right now:

These are the numbers 12 hours after they sent a new wave of codes. I still haven't got one, and reading the comments on Faggit a lot of people haven't either. Which is the strangest thing. If your numbers are so low, and you've already had 4-5 days for early testing to make sure the network code doesn't shit itself and die, why would you still gatekeep the people interested in trying it out so much?

I'm thinking the early feedback was much worse than they anticipated, and they're panicking somewhat, trying to figure out what to do next. But that still makes the gatekeeping baffling. This is not Concord as far as interest in trying out the alpha is concerned. There are a lot of people looking to try it, going by the discord numbers. IMO the only reason to keep all these people from playing is if they've come to the conclusion that players' reaction to the game itself is worse than the perception given by the low player numbers.

The subFaggit sentiment is slowly turning. There's still a massive amount of cope from cultists and shills, but you can see the slow march to doomposting almost in realtime. If they don't decide to shut it down and allow toxic positivity only. If I were someone high up at Sony I'd be fuming at Bungle, and calling all corporate lawyers available to rape the ever living fuck out of their board and managers.
