There's a reason people used to have like 15 kids, it's because most of them died without modern medicine such as vaccines

Extremely sad, and we were just getting rid of chicken pox as well, nobody should have to go through what I had to when I was 6 or 7.That's exactly what's happening, although not with polio (in the US, yet). There's been outbreaks of measles and whooping cough centered in communities where, surprise surprise, there's low rates of vaccination.
There's news out there that the Americas have eliminated measles, but that's not entirely true. People traveling can still bring it in the country and spread it among communities with low vaccination rates. IIRC, the most recent outbreak was spread by an unvaccinated child who contracted measles at Disneyworld in CA. That shitty Kate lady is actively participating in bringing back previously eradicated illnesses to the US.

People need to learn from history. There's a reason people used to have like 15 kids, it's because most of them died without modern medicine such as vaccines
"I'd rather have a dead kid than one with a thread on Kiwi Farms."Vaccinations might give your kids autism
I feel your pain, it's one of those things that'll always be in the back of your mine, especially since drug stores never stop bringing it up right at the door.chicken pox means you get shingles. I'm so terrified of shingles. I wish they'd had the vaccine when I was a kid.
Who knows. It could come without incident as far as I'm concerned.how long do you think it'll be before polio reappears?
There is a vaccine for the shingles if that makes you feel better.chicken pox means you get shingles. I'm so terrified of shingles. I wish they'd had the vaccine when I was a kid.

really? don't you have to be like seventy to get it though? There is a vaccine for the shingles if that makes you feel better.
I believe 60 and over is when you're supposed to.really? don't you have to be like seventy to get it though?
If you have chicken pox, and chicken pox leads to shingles later in life, shouldn't chicken pox be the vaccine itself? There is a vaccine for the shingles if that makes you feel better.
I think for me, it was because one of my sibs already had it so I ended up with it anyway. They sorta used to do this when I was a kid -- back before the vaccine was widely available. (I didn't actually attend one, but it wasn't uncommon for someone to send their kid over to play with someone if they knew they had chicken pox. The reason being that if you got it when you were younger, you were better off. The older you are when you get it, the worse it is.)
If my kid was a lolcow I'd make them a thread on KF myself"I'd rather have a dead kid than one with a thread on Kiwi Farms."
they already purposely have chicken pox parties and excise their kids to it, to "get it over with"
There was an episode where Lisa got the mumps that came out in the 90's even though I'm pretty sure the MMR vaccine had been out for a while at that point. There was an episode of the Simpsons where the family had one when I was younger (2003~2005?), but the vaccine had been out for years at that point (1995, I believe) so I had no clue what was going on.
Keep in mind the shows were written by a older generation during those times, and perhaps they didn't know of these at all when they decided to write about someone getting the mumps or a chicken pox party at play. They wrote what they knew. There was an episode where Lisa got the mumps that came out in the 90's even though I'm pretty sure the MMR vaccine had been out for a while at that point.
Thanks, I'll have to check if my insurance covers that.PSA: Make sure you get a whooping cough (pertussis) booster, folks. I found out the hard way that the DTaP you get as a kid doesn't provide lifelong immunity.
