i was about to post this because i got it recommended too and i thought it was somewhat convincing and i wanted to know if anyone here could deboonk it, at least the video is short.
I don't see how anything in the video is persuading, since it is just a retread of the same arguments trannies and leftists have been using for years. I didn't sit down and watch the whole thing but I did skim through it.
It has never been about chromosomes
Leftists can't make an argument from science, so they have to try and claim their enemies (the right) are the ones that actually don't care about science. The left has to claim that no, actually, the right are the ones who don't care about chromosomes, they actually care about all these other things, they aren't the ones who care about science. The left only does this because they have no way to make a coherent argument from biological reality, so they have to claim that biological reality isn't real.
People can be born with XXY chromosomes or intersex so that means biological sex isn't binary
A stupid argument that the video person even concedes. Humans have a binary sex, male and female, and deviations from that are the result of errors in genetics or other mutations that are BAD, not just an 'oh whoopsie'. Klinefelter's syndrome, or intersex people, aren't just people with a deviation, it is a physical handicap and a condition that requires treatment and special management. Same with someone being born blind, or missing limbs, or anything like that. Those are physical disabilities that are the result of bad mutations in genetics, and while someone can certainly live a fulfilling life with one of those conditions, they all require treatment and medical management and intervention to try and help that person.
Gender and sex are different things
Gender and sex being separate is a recent invention of the 20th century. They were always synonyms until psychologists decided that they were different things in an academic context. The idea that they are different has retroactively been applied to historical times, places, and events by Western historians and gender activists. The application of this has led to insane rewriting of history from a modern lens, in a 21st century version of "the noble savage", where actually people hundreds or thousands of years ago were more enlightened than we are are today on issues of men and women.
Actually, Native Americans had 2-spirit people and aborigines had different interpretations of gender and and...
Interpreting highly unusual and bizarre instances from specific cultures as "transsexual" is a complete reinterpretation of reality from a modern lens, and if you went back in time and told those people that they were transgender they would probably kill you for being possessed by a demon. Complete retelling of history from a specific gender activism lens.
Transgenders in sports isn't a big deal since there are rules in the Olympics and NCAA sports
Inane reframing of the actual problem at hand. Taking or not taking hormones will not undue adolescence changes in men and women, where men will simply have more muscle mass and stronger bones (not to mention different skeletal structure) and no amount of hormones can change that. Also, only focusing on "muh Olympics" ignores the actual problems of men in women's sports, that has been covered constantly across different sports. I notice the youtube guy didn't bring up any actual cases of this in reality, merely brushing the issue off as "solved" already and the subject of a moral panic by bigots when the reality is there are numerous problems and even more emerging, especially in high school, and other sports that he didn't mention.
Gender expression is a spectrum
This is another common falsehood from leftists as well. They want to make a claim that since there are different levels of "masculinity" or "femininity" then that means that there is an entire range of gender and the only 'boundaries' are what is socially acceptable for a society, nothing else. This argument attempts to break down the walls of the binary sex, and claim that it isn't binary at all. They try and attack the binary position by claiming that their opponents will make hard rules for masculinity and femininity, and say "well there are male nurses so that means that gender isn't binary since men and women's jobs can be interchanged!" They set up a straw man of a "hard binary" that has never existed and was never claimed. I can't remember the proper terminology, but sex in humans is a binary modal system. IE, there is a clear binary system, but within each grouping (male and female) there are variations and differences. An analogy would be between chairs and tables. Tables are clearly different from chairs, in design and intended use, though there are similarities (4 legs, flat surface on top, made of wood, etc). A chair or table could be broken (missing leg, cracked surface). There are variations in design across the range, (fewer legs, no legs at all, rocking, etc). You could even use a chair as a table, or vice versa. But everyone can clearly recognize that a table and a chair are different things.
Funny enough this is an ancient problem of philosophy, that of universals and forms. Plato is the one who attempted to solve this problem, and philosophers have been arguing for millennia over these things.
