Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

Grayjay seems to update much quicker than anything else. I like Freetube better but, they're usually slower about getting around Youtube's security measures.
I suspect this may be due to FUTO bankrolling GrayJay, thus allowing its devs to get paid. At least that's my theory as to why GrayJay usually gets fixed in a few hours instead of a day or two like the other clients I've used.

Freetube is pretty great too. As is ReVanced, NewPipe and its forks (I'll shill for BraveNewPipe until the cows come home), yt-dlp and pretty much any other legit third party YT client.

imo GrayJay is well worth the one-time $10 payment if you can afford it (and I know that in this economy, not everyone can). Actually no matter which third party YT client (or clients) you use, throw a few shekels at the project if the devs accept donations and you've got some spare funds handy. They're the last line of defense between YT users and the total and complete pajeetification of the platform.

Lately I've noticed if I open a new tab on top of the existing tab that has a youtube video playing? that video pauses instantly. I resume it and go back to my new tab? pauses again. The same issue occurs if I have a new browser window open on top of the window with Youtube playing underneath but only if the window is maxed out to fill my monitor. Happens once every few weeks for a day or two. Real odd. Doesn't seem to be an issue in Brave but just Librewolf. Makes me wonder if Google is going to try and introduce the """"feature"""" of not allowing background play in Youtube on mobile as a desktop feature now or if I'm just a retard with a weird one off issue.

I fucking hate the YouTube recommendations system so much, I've wiped my Youtube history SEVERAL times this week alone because I couldn't be bothered to click "not interested" everytime some motherfucker slid his way into my recommended. Watch a couple videos about early computer history and early computer viruses? You must be a real tech nerd, champ! Have 8-Bit Guy shortcircuiting some old prototypes you don't give a fuck about. Watch some video about why anime is so weird? Here, have two gorillion videos made by queers about anime. Don't tickle your fancy? Here's a video from some leftist about how he escaped the altright pipeline!
It's genuinely so tiresome, I regularly mark 80% of my feed on mobile as "not interested". Mind you, I've stripped out all the datamining shit that Youtube has stuffed into the Youtube app on mobile by using ReVanced and I have several tracker-blocker extensions on my computer.
On the brightside, I've started being more picky with what I watch, for example: I was watching this video about S.T.A.L.K.E.R., first few opening minutes are filled with zoomer and Discord, then this gay ass image of this slightly androgynous looking girl(?) holding a glass jar with a clearly edited label saying "estrogen" flashes on the screen for like 0.6 seconds, and mind you this faggot never once brought up trannies or fags once in the video, that prompted me to click off.
Point is, how do I un-fuck my Youtube recommendations without compromising my privacy?

I keep getting recommended shit I've already seen. Multiple times. Youtube's algorithm is exceptionally fucked.

Every now and then for a few days at a time, every third video down on the recommend list of the video I'm watching will never fail to either show a video in a language I don't watch (Hindi or a Slavic language) or a gaming live stream, or the video will contain both. I only watch videos in English or Japanese vloggers who mainly don't talk and I never watch live streams.

BlockTube allows you to block any YT channels you don't want to see, even when you're not logged in.

I originally installed it because YT would continue to recommend channels to me after I clicked "Don't recommend channel" whilst logged into my account. Sometimes these recommendations would reappear a few months later, though sometimes it was just days before The Algorithm tried forcing this slop onto me again.

Case in point: Mohan and the Ghost of Susan feel that I absolutely positively must watch Linus Tech Tips, no matter how many times I tell YT I don't want to.

I guarantee that if I were to disable BlockTube, that soy-face Canadian faggot and his homoerotic thumbnails would magically reappear on my YT home page within minutes.

Anyone have anygood userscripts/extensions to make youtube more bearable, i'm a little hesistent to install random userscripts because i don't know any programming language and sometimes they put malware in them.

Has anyone figured out how to download yt videos with the original audio track instead of the auto-dubbed translation part. I've done comparisons on several languages but it appears locked to some cookies.
Youtube supports multiple audio tracks now? I had no idea. Can you post an example? Maybe I can figure something out.

The amount of extensions required to make YouTube useable these days gives Bethesda a run for their money. I've noticed that the amount of recommended spam in search results has increased quite a bit in the past few months. Even if I use the search "before: [year]" trick it still crams in shorts and recommended videos 5-10 results in.

I said the word “Cuphead” out loud once yesterday and impulse-bought DLC on Steam, now YouTube is showing me recommendations for the cartoon. Really makes ya think.
Hate youtube shorts with a fiery passion. Whoever came up with those is a sadist, even if they can be filtered out with extensions. It just reeks of dystopian, terminal corporate brainrot. View attachment 7323510
I’m kinda-sorta okay with shorts, but the worst part is how they are forced to play on loop, you can’t just disable this feature that no sane person would want. And because it’s forced, half the shorts go “SO NEXT TIME SOMEONE ASKS YOU ABOUT… *video abruptly ends*”
