Nope he just thinks computer = computer, he's quite ignorant about how they work and that there is different operating systems and such like. He's pretty much been expelled from Freegeek at this point (the place he got the computer) the problem is he has nobody to tell him this and if he did it's doubtful he'd be able to wrap his head around it.

When he finds out that he can't run what he wants on the shitbox I wouldn't put it past him to try and torrent a copy of windows but he will be expecting it to be able to run Win10 Creators edition and he wont be able to and be hamstrung to something like windows 7 32bit (there is a lot of stuff in W10ce that any newer creative software is going to requirer going forward so support for W7 will be deprecated especially considering it's now in LTS) and will flip his lid at the situation and beg for a new one.
