From the artist's notes, she did it on purpose. The art could have been a perfectly fine, perfectly cute AU where a straight man names his daughter after his partner in honour of him, but the artist openly said he chose Mel as 'sloppy seconds' because his first love was always a man. In context it seems so much worse; she just should have not added the Jayvik and shipping tags and forgone that 'in all timelines' line, which in proper context isn't romantic at all and was never intended to be such. It's okay art, but when an artist really shoves their opinions in there, it's hard to take it seriously.
