Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Lol we learn the gi infection she kept getting was C. diff. Couldn't happen to a nicer cancer clout chasing corpse. also is her mom taking these thotty pics for her? It's like every one is weirdly, uncomfortably sexual.

It's all really sad and maybe I'm just cold, but I just can't get over her outfits. I had to laugh out loud more than once.
They look like a 12 year old tried to dress their Barbie "sexy".
Also, owning this many tight fitting outfits after loosing weight this fast kind of gives away that you're not planning to regain it. Imagine being a doctor and this woman in a tiny crop top and the tiniest cardigan tries to dramatically explain to you, how she totally wants to eat! It's obviously really grim, but also kind of funny.

Being a ‘mystery’ in other areas of your life feels like the pinnacle of coolness. That mysterious girl at school who lives on a canal boat and dyes her hair according to the lunar calendar? Cool. That mysterious guy whose enigmatic texts make him irresistible? Also cool. Being a mystery in the world of medicine… not so much. Mine was the bad kind of mystery, one where everyone was trying to solve a horrific crime but the evidence was all lost and the detectives were struggling to come up with new leads.
I often joke that when I see politicians on TV visiting our hospital wards, they remind me of school Ofsted inspections. Everything is prepped for their arrival. It’s the patients who see and, more importantly, feel what goes on in our hospital wards, but they’re often reduced to numbers and statistics.

This reads like it was written by a 15 year old who's identity is caught up in how much they like english lessons, not a 31 year old or however old Tilly is. Her first example of a mysterious person is a school girl who sounds like a Jacqueline Wilson character. How many people her age who are not teachers are going for OFSTED as their first example of an inspection? These are reference points for teenagers, not adults. Doesn't reflect well on Oxford that they award English degrees to people who write like this.

Being a medical mystery means I’ve now experienced every corner of the healthcare system for over 20 years. I’ve had a front-row seat watching humanity at its worst (one patient kept the whole ward awake all night by hosting a casual family reunion around the bed, feasting on buckets of KFC popcorn chicken) and its best.

I'm hoping that's meant to be hyperbole that isn't coming across for me because that's a very strange pick for humanity at its worst.

Oh come on. What's a little Holocaust compared to someone inconveniencing Tilly, the main character of the universe? It's kind of like someone cut me off in traffic yesterday and it was worse than the Thirty Years War.

Isn't kfc in the icu one of the unprovable claims against Mama Nails?

Not exactly, the rumors I remember were A) the initial cause of Jahi bleeding out and going into cardiac arrest in the first place was because her family snuck her a hamburger while she was NPO after surgery, then her retard grandma got the bright idea to suction her when she started choking and B) Separate incident where the whole fam-damnily was loudly whooping it up while camped out in the waiting room at some point, and went so far in their ignorance and lack of consideration to stink the place up by ordering a fucking crawfish boil. Again, both of these are just unverified rumors from who knows where, but given their behavior I wouldn't write off the possibility of either.

I am definitely not the sporty type, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t ice skating - like ballet or gymnastics - one of those sports where being a 6’1 girl would make it very hard to compete at a high level?
Yes, it’s way too tall for high level competition. 5’1 to 5’3 is average. I think 5’6 is the tallest any female Olympic skater has ever been. Long legs are a hindrances to double and triple axels and other jumps.

KSF said she couldn’t find hard proof she competed in ice skating. I’d guess her growth spurt took her out of competing before any ED. (But starving herself might have been a tactic to stunt her growth, but it didn’t work)

I think Charlie enjoyed ice skating but I doubt she was a serious competitor as a teen, maybe just local stuff. The competition in SC would not be fierce. Charlie probably got all the negatives out of ice skating, but few of the positives.

I still can’t understand when Charlie was shooting past 5’9 someone didn’t steer her towards runway modeling.

Sometimes you will experience physical and mental things you don't like and that is ok
there is a big thing in BPD therapy called "distress tolerance", learning to have to sit with unpleasant feelings. They really don't like it.

As for the NZ woman who wants to starve herself, has Paige been an inpatient for 3 years? I thought she was home for a while, but I haven't followed her that closely.
I'm a bit conflicted on that case because I do agree that people are allowed to make bad decisions, it sounds like she just has a raging ED. But then again it's a bit like any addiction that unless the person wants to engage with cessation of the addiction, they won't be successful.

Wait, she's claiming active TB for 13 years? Impressive longevity.
For anyone interested in an account of what active TB is actually like and how treatment escalates with different levels of drug resistance, I found this account quite illuminating:

Its definitely not a glamorous disease for swooning Victorian ladies. The girl lost her hearing, was treated for years, taking 20+ pills every day and gnarly shots in her thighs and bum.

I don't think it would be that different under the NHS, at least a few years ago I know for sure my local hospital wasn't testing for drug resistance. They'd just swap out antibiotics til one worked.

Parts of London now have TB rates way above the average third World war zone and a lot of the cases are MDR (multidrug resistant.) cough cough unchecked immigration… anyway…
One of the things that pisses me off about munchies is their breeding of these turbo-bugs. and you might say well Otterly so what? It’s not like many have TB, but bacteria can swap plasmids (little circles of DNA) and take up DNA from other species of bacteria. So you can breed one species of mrsa or Tb or whatever and it’s got a plasmid for a specific antibiotic resistance (or multiple!) and they get friendly and swap and now both have the ability to resist that antibiotic.
It’s a massive issue because this can happen across species of host and bacteria, so an antibiotic resistance cassette that springs up in a factory farm can eventually end up in someone like this who then ends up as patient zero for a whole new strain of pathogenic bacteria that goes on to infect half the hospital and wider community.
Factory farming with routine antibiotics should be banned, and so should munchies.
Tricia in particular should probably have a Chernobyl-style concrete sarcophagus built around her and then irradiated.

The thing that makes me hesitate in declaring this is for sure Paige, is the reference to her parents also not accepting it’s not psychological, which we know from her mother’s forum posts isn’t true. However, supporting this in the hope that it might soon be over does make sense with her mother’s feelings towards Paige, perhaps.
I’m thinking this is Paige. What you point out is exactly the type of small detail that a journalist would get wrong. And mom probably knows it’s not smart to talk to a journalist about your dying daughter who’s accused you of abuse.

Yeah exactly, they put us all at risk. And cos horizontal evolution doesn't happen to all the bacteria colonising you simultaneously, you can get different strains with different resistance profiles and end up playing whack-a-mole with antibiotics. With each antibiotic that fails a new strain will become dominant and the overall resistance increases.

I can't find a reference now but I'm pretty sure in the 80s Russia was working on a strain of Bacillus anthracis that was resistant to every antibiotic. So I hope I'm misremembering, the combination of that with the longevity of its spores is not a nice one.

Are you a fellow One Health fan? Humanity recently discovered that we actually live in the environment, and that is the same environment that our livestock live in. I'm being pithy cos its so obvious, but I like a lot of the initiatives I've seen relating to it.

ETA: also, fucking hell, I did not know that about London. More confirmation its a shithole no one should go to. I thought getting the BCG was a formative memory of British schoolchildren. I guess that's where immigration comes in. I feel like that should probably be a requirement of entering the country, like yellow fever vaccinations are for certain countries.

One Health
It’s one of those things that is fantastic on paper and if working well as it should. Yes we live in a society environment and we should be multidisciplinary.
A tiny bit of me post Covid insanity knows that it’ll be a black budget laundering machine that’s used to push the pod stuff as well, but there we go.

They stopped giving the BCG as a matter of course in 2005. This is a brilliant idea and absolutely will not have any repercussions whatsoever.

Yeah, like @Womb Wizard Victim says they’ve stopped giving it, which I just don’t understand at all. Even though it’s a live (attenuated) one, it’s got a good safety record and is considered a safe immunisation and it’s batshit crazy to stop giving it. They do still give it by the way - but ONLY to ‘targeted’ communities. So only immigrants and the slums they’re in basically. I really disagree with this, it should still be offered to all school kids like it used to be.

something is weird about her waist and maybe her hips. Does it go in like that because she’s so tall and skinny? Or is she photoshopping a more significant waist?
There's definitely photoshopping, especially the one of her back in the open hospital gown. The thought of teenagers yassifying their surgery photos to have snatched waists is just... *sigh*

It’s such a fascinating pathology. I am someone who is a perfectionist and VERY hard on myself and I think that’s why I find them so interesting.
Unlike them, I never built my personality core on a physical. If you’ve done that, your excuse has to be physical I think as well. You didn’t make the Olympics because your body was afflicted by outside causes, not because your body wasn’t good enough, or you didn’t train hard enough.
I wonder how much maladaptive behaviour comes from similar things?
It’s not really about physical, I mean it is, but it’s more about the social attention, identity and achievement that goes with it. I think that’s why these particular female physical activities attract future munchies. You don’t find a lot of munchies that have backgrounds in softball, fencing or soccer. It always seems to be ballet and ice skating (gymnastics used to be high on the list, but that’s been declining the last decades as it’s focused more on strength and raw athletic ability. The public perception of gymnasts is now more dynamic powerhouses and less dainty and delicate dolls).

There is a big difference between an inner drive for achievement or perfection vs a drive that relies on praise, public perception and validation of others. I think the munchies fall into to the later category and that’s why they latch onto munching after dropping out of ballet or ice skating. One of the primary reasons these pursued these particular activities was attention, adulation and a unique type of delicate feminine validation. They seem to find similar types of social rewards in munching.

Well adjusted Ballerinas and ice skaters motivated by an inner drive will find a new productive outlet if they are knocked out of the sport. They will grieve, maybe be really depressed for months, but they are resilient and find non-destructive ways to cope and channel the drive into something else. The maladapted ones, who were motivated by exterior motivations (attention and social perception) can easily fall into maladaptive, destructive outlets - eating disorders, munching and drugs.

Honestly, in the modern era I think there is a much bigger downside to ice skating and ballet vs upside for young girls. As for physical activities I’d certainly steer any young girl towards team sports or track and field instead.

I’d certainly steer any young girl towards team sports
You bring up a big point here when it comes to the failed musician munchies: were they all soloists?
Because those in orchestra are essentially doing a team sport rather than an individual event, and they focus and adulation is on the team not the star player.
