A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I am beyond angry, and I am a pretty relaxed person, but this "deal" with India is a death warrant. In a country where it is increasingly difficult to find a job, it is going to be impossible. I don't know what could possibly induce Labour and Tory MPs to allow a Confidence motion in the face of the slaughter that would result right now, but I don't recall a government facing so much anger by the public and if said public are not given the chance to push back at them democratically, it's going to come out in other ways.

So right here's the thing, lets just assume Reform and AFD are fascists, like full blown jackboots swastika Nazis. The first question would be "How did we get here?"

If we do a quick history course we'll notice that 1930s Germany was absolutely fucked thanks to losing World War 1, an influx of diseases FROM World War 1, an incompetent government completely unfit to rule, a 'us and them' type of hierarchy between wealthy communities that keep wealth within those communities, and an unclear national plan in how to unfuck any of it. Does this sound like a strong and stable country that could fend off populist ideals? Do you think this is a country that could fix any of those problems without subjecting a population to generations of grief and poverty? Moreso, do you see parallels between the United Kingdom in 2025 even though they're not as extreme examples?

Similar things happened in Italy, Russia (multiple times) and other countries. There's a point where the public hits such a level of voter apathy that they become militarized.

But here's the kicker, Reform and AFD AREN'T Nazis, they just so happen to offer the furthest right opinions in a world where centrism is considered the most right you can typically go. In fact the public is really fucking lucky that we've got Reform here and AFD in Germany because the political situation across Europe could very well lead to something that makes these parties look like left wingers. Death penalty, concentration camps, dissolution of elections etc.

Similar to how politicians from the Tories and Farage assured businesses that cheap foreign labour wouldn't stop after Brexit cuts down European immigrants, because they'd just be replaced them with non-Euros instead, I'd posit that this might be a similar, except the government might take measures to cut the arrival of Muslims but put businesses at ease by assuring them that Indians will make up for the loss.

Whilst Labour want to restrict visas on ostensibly Muslim countries, we see the Conservatives (And Lib Dems too) floating the idea of banning non-stun slaughter in some of their pamphlets (I had a Lib Dem one but I left it someplace; I'll take a picture and post it if I find it later). Of course if you try to google this you'll only find articles from Jews and Muslims abroad complaining about it but I think the mainstream parties will be willing to sacrifice Muslims to assure their own asses - doesn't mean they'll actually try to stem immigration in any meaningful way beyond that. If they ban their special meat, then ban their hijabs/niqabs, you'll make it very hard to be a Muslim in the UK, which is the only optics-friendly way the powers that be have of trying to quell their numbers. Labour won't be the one to do it though.



If this were pre-2016 I don't think I would've found an influx of Indians as harrowing as I would Muslims, but recent years have demonstrated that they're just as bad when present in large enough numbers, such as in Canada. Their reputation as a whole has plummeted in recent years. Kitboga is an unsung hero.

It would seem that even Welsh Labour has had enough of Westminster Labour, and Eluned Morgan (the Leader of Wales) has stated that she is losing patience with Starmer:
