"This movie isn't very good? Change it to lesbians uwu that'll make it instantly good"

This isn't the first time I see this. I've seen users (white people often) who only reblog stuff of Lala land (or any popular movie tbh, I've also seen it with Beauty and the Beast) if it's a "remade" graphic starring black actors or the like. It's like they feel guilty of even liking something where white people are the leads...Sad.

I dunno, it just bothers me and seems like a fetish. No, Sally, you're not more "progressive" or "care about minorities" just bc you watched the all ghetto version of Beauty and the Beast, you actually seem to treat minorities like fetishes. Go fund for charities or learn about a culture if you're so invested in "caring for the minorities".

Most white social justice at this point seems more like white savior behavior tbh.

"The actual struggles black musicians went through"... Could be interesting, maybe, even though it's been done a ton, but you add "black lesbians" to it, and that's when you really go into crazy town.

Has the thought occurred to them that this is all fiction and none of it is real?
No, of course not

Before I watched it, I read some of the 'La La Land is problematic because' bits. From all the moaning about how it whitewashed jazz and the struggle of black musicians, I was expecting the movie to be set in the beginnings of the jazz era and this pair of mediocre white musicians rise to the top or something. Turns out, it takes place this century, the male lead is into jazz, the female lead could take it or leave it but she's an actress anyway, most of the background characters and musicians are poc, and it's not even centered around jazz. I highly doubt their black lesbian fetish would make the movie any better.

I can understand how representation matters, but at the same time, can these people feel no sympathy/empathy or anything at all for these straight, white characters? Do they really need a character to be non-white, not straight, trans, disabled, whatever for these people to relate or feel or learn something from? It's like if I sat down and watched Lion and said "oh, that little Indian kid sure looks lost. if only this were a white kid, I could maybe grasp how terrifying this is for him. oh well." It would be completely ridiculous.

There already was a movie about a black lesbian jazz musician. It was hyped up for weeks and tumblr didn't watch it. Guess it doesn't count if it's not on the big screen.

Leave lala land alone guys. It has good music.

They never actually watch the movies they say they want. They just like to complain.

What else is new?

Also, this came across my dash:

The response left out was "I WAS A CHILD!"

Similarly, much as these people seemingly want to watch movies about the struggles black musicians had gone through - how much you want to bet they'd never want to listen to those same black musicians?
