for this game's context, it indicates that he didn't play the game enough to find out that your dude after Act 1, Verso, can fuck his female companions (namely Sciel and Lune), except for Maelle/ Alicia.
it's not hard to find out that Sciel is a widow, meaning a female whose husband passed away. after every story point beyond Lumiere, you reconvene in camp, and there's "talk to the group" and "talk to a specific companion" options.

be fair & comprehensive; don't jump the gun.
