imo it'd be because fundamentally chris draws largely standalone art with lots of little details, while peecake just mostly does slop to pump out as many panels as possible, so she will always be shit locked to a point. additionally, she considers herself a political activist, (more accurately like part of the absolute dumb fuck leftist movement around hasan) so her art winds up being an excuse for a. "fuck all republicans" b. a complete brain dead take akin to "good people would permanently open borders and free all prisons and provide universal health care! and also make republicans enemies of the state, and glass israel, and glass russia, and assassinate a political figure" c. "i love my husband! also i want to be fucked by other men while he watches alone in a corner" d. "haha my daughter is randomly upset with me all the time! girls amirite??" so her art is shittified a bit from what she could normally do to ease rapid creation, but her dialogue is worse than garfield, because garfield kept his mouth shut about politics from what i remember.I feel obligated to point out that Ellen doesn't speak for all Canadians... She just speaks for most of them.
I'm new to this thread but I must say despite not having been here that long Chris is the better artist. Mainly because his stuff is memorable while Ellen's art is just insufferably dull to me.
if she removed two of (graphic sex) (upper middle class white guilt twitter politics) (family sitcom), and focused on one she'd do better. her politics are dog shit, but she's a gooner and her art works ok for family moments. it's just retarded how she dips into of, coom artwork, "black people have basic rights! they do!" then snowball fights with her daughter. you fuck with several audiences like that, she's not educated in any politics, and she's not able to mix them. on top of all that she's in the sphere of artists that found their own hugboxes so all criticism is dogpiled or ignored, so their ego inflates and all their problems cement in. "horny comic strip with some political takes" becomes "ellen woodbury: sex positive political activist and indie comic artist"
