There was a lot of media that released around 2015-2017 that felt that way. Whether it was trying to push feminism as "the new hotness" (Ghostbusters, Star Wars Sequels), or pushing progressive topics like homosexuality (Steven Universe). It really does feel bizarre in retrospect how so much of Hollywood collectively stopped in its tracks and all banded together against something like this. Did they really think it would change anything?

This bullshit argument is literally just the Prisoner's Dilemma, the logic is that you shouldn't go low because your enemy will go low with you, but this logic only holds if you believe that the opposition is morally superior and will never go lower than you do. If one side tries to be the bigger man in all affairs while the other sees it as a life and death struggle with no room for principles, the latter grinds the former into the dirt with no mercy. The only antidotes to this are either a highly homogenous society built on honor and shame, or a draconian legal system that's turned indiscriminately on everyone that abuses it
