UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That's the eyes of a woman who rides you all weekend, leaves your back scratched into ribbons, then accuses you of rape because you didn't text her back quick enough.
I can fix her. Drop her deadname while she's riding, if the internet has taught me anything it's that pooners fucking love being "misgendered"

This is the fate of all Globo homo leaders, Boris was one as well. If you hold your own population in contempt, then they will oust you.

Who knew that with all the trappings of power comes respecting your native population? Should have actually listened to Liz II.

Fucking hell, man. Tories are doomed at this rate.
From looking at the local elections, in the North people who abandon Labour/Tory go Reform, and in the South the people who abandon Labour/Tory end up split between Reform and Lib Dem. Labour are following a similar and consistent downward trend too. I know these polls are very optimistic as far as Reform are concerned but it's still some nice schadenfreude before the next inevitable embarrassment or rage-inducing thing comes along.

I know Reform are plagued with issues but at least it has a positive indicator of where people are at politically. Feels good.

Important things to remember. First is that the voters are fickle and have terrible memories. With the general election years off all of this could change.

Second is a lot of people had the same idea when Labour's Red Wall was sundered and look what we have in office now.

Third is that the Tories just lost an election and have lost 5% of support since. In contrast Labour just won that election and have lost 13%. While it is right to argue that the Tories should have snapped up some of that and look like they haven't it's too soon to declare their death.

I'm not especially pro-monarchy but that woman more than anything, respected her position. She saw her position as her Duty. And it showed. She want born to it. She took it on and cracked on and just did. I can respect that.

Jug ears, on other hand will be first to get a piano wire necklace and a lamppost ride if I had my way, in Minecraft.

So, one thing circulating in the alternative media is the letter regarding the disability cuts. It is essentially a letter of open rebellion, allegedly with 40 signatures but now at 80-85. This is over 20% of their MPs, and in a passive-aggressive way, these are people who can no confidence you.

Another thing happening is that Rayner's Employment Bill is getting wrecked in the Lords, and the head of DWP has enforced new work policies that contradict it. With the bill getting destroyed and builders shitting on her building policies and her previous attempts at leaving the party. I think we are about to have our first major casualty of war.

I did say a while ago I predicted a Boris scenario where his cabinet left, but I am getting vibes of a similar ilk.

Cardiff continues to give my people a bed reputation.
So what gives? I'm not joking when I say that, prior to visiting Kiwi Farms, every single person I ever met from Wales was a straight up edgy nihilist or a straight communist who hated England. These weren't Cardiff dudes, either, and none were students, academics, or business types in a normie setting. I'm genuinely curious about political viewpoints in Wales now.

It's hard to have confidence in your leader when he openly campaigns against the people you're supposed to be representing. If I ever hear the phrase "economically inactive" again, it'll be too soon.

TPTB are so comically incompetent they haven't yet gathered that about 75% of the support for Reform is purely due to dissatisfaction with immigration policies and them being harsh on crime. A lot of their economic policies are unworkable and people think Farage is a twat. All Labour has to do is stop sucking BAME cock 24/7 and impose Denmark/Hungary style restrictions on visas, mass deportations and various other strategies that have been shown to work but they literally cannot stop sucking BAME cock.

They seem to have all taken to writing open letters constantly with the understanding that the average person doesn't really know what an MP actually does. If it was 20 years ago then I'd have said it was a rebellion brewing and might cause issues for them but now writing a letter to post on social media and portray an MP as tho they are a plucky activist taking on the government is just that, a letter for social media. Even with 80 MPs signing it they won't stand up in HoC and say a thing, it's all performance art.

Rayner like all of the cabinet and MPs people can name are too addicted to freebies for them to resign, the only way this cabinet are going is by being forced to resign as a result of a scandal or if Starmer thinks yeeting one of them off a cliff might save his own reputation.

The whole Cardiff thing is just our version of London, like how London is memed on for being terrible Cardiff is teh same.

But yea alot of Welsh politics is not liking England but not taking it to the extreme like Scotland or Ireland. I think most of us are like you say nihilist types who just don't care what happens because we get fucked over regardless so we keep our heads down.

Oh no, they all know this. Denmark is the exception here that proves the rule: just by simply rejecting globalist policy they crushed the "far right" anti establishment parties

The problem in the UK is that:

a) voters don't want things to change especially when it requires technology or lifestyle changes
b) pensioners vote overwhelmingly more than the young
c) triple lock fucks the government budget if wage growth or inflation exceeds 2.5%

This combination requires zero wage growth, which can only really be done with infinity immigrants filling jobs where technology is blocked. Either because it's expensive, and would require government borrowing, or because it'd require a 70 year old boomer to change their lifestyle in even the tiniest of ways like using online banking. On top of that, because of the Ponzi scheme approach of state pensions, you need more workers to fund more old people not working; otherwise you have to borrow and that increases inflation.

It's a vicious cycle that will only end when there's fewer old people collecting money than working people paying in again.

We're not as performative or as loud as the French but everyone has a breaking point.

Read some of the stories from the riots and revolts we had.
