Probably not much. One of the few that comes to mind is Rukia from Bleach, she's popular, but most weebs either fawn over busty waifus or loli stuff. Maybe they're more popular in video games because I can think of more of them, like Stellar Blade's Lily, Marie Rose from Dead or Alive, and Faith Connors from Mirror's Edge.

I would say not really. There are popular petite women but they don’t immediately have an audience like busty or loli girls do. They have to actually earn it but there are always fans of big boobs and, sadly, children. Using as my baseline the sort of shabby treatment Aerith from FF7 sometimes receives from that fanbase. Even when women like such characters, because they obviously aren’t extremophiles about female secondary sexual characteristics like men can be, it’s psychoanalyzed as a self-interested choice since they are neither lolis nor especially busty (obviously the sort of remark that applies to everyone with any kind of taste).
Operative word there being "sometimes". There's enough of a rabid fan following for Aerith that they constantly get in social media slapfights with the Tifa crowd.

I am pointing to the fact that there is an incredibly vocal crowd of militant Aerith fans, so she probably isn't the best example to use as a case of a "petite character that is unpopular by a whole fandom", and using the fact that you have a bunch of rabid autists slapfighting with other rabid autists over who the superior waifu is as an example of how she's more popular than you seem to think.
No, not entirely. People get fucking horny as hell for Aerith as well. The porn for her since Remake dropped exponentially skyrocketed to the point where she even got an infamous, life-sized sex doll modeled after her. (Granted, Tifa did too, but the more news-worthy variant ended up being the Aerith one for... whatever reason.)
Oh, I'm sure they get horny for her, especially her modern iteration, but I think her main draw is her more demure way about her. Purely for research purposes I'm curious about that doll though.

Not really? I've personally seen Aerith fans start shit with the Tifa fans themselves on most other days that end in "Y" on Xitter and such.
