Oh absolutely. If Andy were my blood he'd have been dealt with pretty early in some way, and I say that because one of my grandmother's sisters had a kid like him. Once it was clear how uncontrollable he was going to be for the duration of his life and it was clear there was no improvement to be had, they had him sent to a state hospital and that's where he lived for the rest of his fucking days.

Granted Andy deserves jail not a state hospital, but in the 50's it was the more horrible option anyway.

State hospitals are more horrible options than jail to this day.

So he's a weird case because he isn't autistic, but he is absolutely low intelligence and they mimic one another when it comes to symptoms. His social awkwardness, flat affect, inability to control his emotions, childishness, and his lack of attachment to other people in an emotional way looks like autism at first, but when it comes down to it Andy isn't autistic he's literally just stupid and mean.

For first responders and caregivers and hospital staff, it's this massive legal liability they just don't want to fuck too hard with because it could risk their jobs and they know it. The truth is they deal with people like Andy every fucking day, and there are a lot of shitty people out there just like him. The only difference is that Andy self-documents like it's his fucking job so folks outside of healthcare get to see that shit for once.

Someone just needs to have the guts to put that he is a plain malingerer in his chart and that would seal his fate for all time in the medical world.
