As a child of the 80s, I can't really say if it was as bad in the 70's for Nixon as it is now with Trump, but in 80s Nixon was pretty much the defacto punchline in the media when discussing "bad" Presidents.

For sure. There just wasn't nearly as many media sources back then to see the real scope of whatever "derangement syndrome" people were "suffering" from in those days. Having said that...at it's worst, I'm sure NDS wasn't nearly as bad as TDS. The country "seemed" a lot saner back then.
There also wasn't much "social justice" back then. There was "political correctness" that "social justice" mutated from, but it wasn't the fanatical cult that "woke" is now.
