The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual music competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union, where 37 countries submit original songs to be performed live. Held since 1956, Eurovision seeks to unite the continent through music, though their apolitical rules have faced a lot of scrutiny in recent years (banning Russia from entry, disqualifying Belarus' entry due to political lyrics).
This year, the EBU have banned all flags on stage except ones representing countries participating, causing immense butthurt from LGBTQIAP+ participants and pro-Palestinian protestors. Eurovision is taking place in Basel, Switzerland, following Nemo, an "enby" "rapper" winning in 2024 with The Code. Yuval Raphael, a survivor of the Nova music festival attack on 7 October, will be taking part for Israel with New Day Will Rise, sparking mass protests in Switzerland and beyond.
2024 featured trainwreck Bambie Thug, who uses they/them and fae/faer pronouns, representing Ireland with Doomsday Blue. Her costume included a tranny-flag colored outfit, as well as planned pro-Palestinian messages which the EBU made her remove. Ahead of the contest last year, there were mass protests in Malmö due to Israel's inclusion in Eurovision. These protests included Europe's own sweetheart Greta Thunberg!
2024 also saw Israel's entry (Eden Golan - Hurricane; previously called October Rain) being required to change their lyrics as they were deemed too political by the EBU. There was huge drama backstage with numerous accusations of delegation harassment by Israel. Eden had been ordered by Shin Bet to stay in her hotel room between performances and was ushered to dress rehearsals in a convoy of cars.
At the Second Semi-Finals press conference, Joost Klein (The Netherlands) and Marina Satti (Greece) made their feelings known about Israel participating. Eden was asked a challenging question pertaining to the risk of safety she’s put the contest in with her inclusion and was given an out to not answer. Joost objecting from under the Dutch flag:
Public votes for Israel were boosted by a campaign by Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Advertising Office, Eden asking for votes in different languages across the world due to the "wave of hatred and Muslim demonstrations." Joost would be disqualified after an altercation with an Israeli photographer.
Israel was so controversial in 2024 the whole debacle has a dedicated Wikipedia page:

I love to hate watch Eurovision each year. There's always been an element of politisperging attached to the event, but it's been getting more spicy each year.
Mods, please move this wherever you think it fits - I've almost posted this in 2 different places now so I have no idea where it's best placed.
