I agree the fandom is a pain the ass. The overall appeal for me was seeing a bomb being politically constructed behind the scenes of the cute school shit and waiting for it to go off in the final of season 1 and beginning of season 2. People didn't care for the ending but I had fun even if it may have been too optimistic.

Votoms is cool, but Coconna was a prototype for G-Cucks type characters. Doesn't the Ghost in the Shell manga have lots of comedy and graphic nudity? I say the only way to reform anime is to hold up series like Dairugger, Harlock, Yamato, Dougram, 0079, Ideon, and 70s super robots as the gold standard and ensure that characters look like those series' characters at their most cartoony (Tetsuro potato heads are based and a great normie filter; fite me), the writing is on par with the best sci-fi literature and never repetitive, self-insert bait and sexual content non-existent, and there is no clear divide between good and evil.
But I also resent most of Tomino's pre-Turn A shows, too.
