Best read I have on this is all the rumors about the Hegseth Isreal thing are true in the broadstrokes and Trump is changing/pivoting 30 years of Middle East foreign policy in a week long trip, this isent inherently a bad thing it is just radical.
He has either realized or decided Israel, while it may share western values, isent our "stalwart ally" in the area we were hoping for. So the "realpolitik" is Trump turning, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar into a new "bloc" of nations aligned with the US against both Iran and China and possible Russia.
Its a dicey strategy, there is no real reason or indication to believe that the Saudis wont just double cross us if the Chinese come knocking in 6 months with a better deal and then we are left with nothing in the region, might be for the best but then whats the point of 4 decades of time, sweat and blood over there?
Its all a bad move IMO, the pacific is where we need all our energy and focus right now, playing in the sand is falling into the same mistake of the last half dozen or so administrations.
