Unpopular views about music

People who say "I listen to everything but Country and Rap" don't know shit about music.

If you are a serious music person, there will be more than two genres that you hate. There are many genres I hate more than either Country or Rap, such as Jazz Fusion, Reggae, Disco and Jungle. Easy Listening can do one, too.

You're not a REAL music fan unless you hate as much music as you like, ideally more. The elite gigachad music fan hates ALL music. It's important to have standards.
That's why I specify my disdain for modern stuff. Modern rap can fuck right off, but DMX? Shit's great. Older country like David Allen Coe, Roy Clark or Johnny Cash is great music. Hell, I've even grown fawn of some of Big & Rich. Modern country? Fuck right off with that glorified pop music by another name shit.

Reggae is still lame and gay though. If Bob Markey never got popular, no one would've given an ounce of a fuck about that genre outside of Jamaicans.

Rap is high IQ. Layer 1 is "bumbada bix nood mufugga" and the actual core of it is complex and tragic poetry skillfully performed at a speed too fast for retards to comprehend. The non-stage personality of most good rappers is thoughtful and introverted, like that of an author. It makes me sad every time I listen to it. Rap is art depicting demoralizing and defeatist topics which is why it gets reflexively labelled as degenerate but the actual meaning behind the words is a desperate message in a bottle asking for the rotten culture to change, either through exaggerated parody or more directly.

Have you listened to DJ Screw? His mixtapes are what made the whole rap thing click for me -- the production and sequencing forces you to engage with the subject matter like nothing else. All Screwed Up Vol. II in particular is a genuine masterpiece. Those guys knew what was up.

Katy Perry's music is for HR ladies, who play motivational music and waste your time with pointless job interviews. Perhaps one of the most corporate and soulless singers I ever listened to.
I think disliking Katy Perry's music is a very popular thing to do now but you're right...except for her first album, that one was genuinely good.

I was sick of hearing Part of Me all the time being played at motivational things at school even back then kek.

Rap music has the potential to be the most important musical generes of all time because it's easy to consume, easy to produce, and requires little to no formal training to make. It has the potential to be a creative outlet for the common man but we instead it's niggers.

If you hate modern U2 that's understandable. But you would be a damn liar if you said they were never good.
U2’s peak was much stronger than Coldplay’s too. Coldplay has just made generic pop anthems for a decade now and sounds almost indistinguishable from OneRepublic and the like. U2’s 80s and early 90s were much stronger than any timeline for Coldplay. It’s just that Bono is such a twat it’s easy to downplay U2.
